It’s so infuriating that teen smoking rates were at an all time low in the US and we were on track to basically eradicate smoking and nicotine addiction in teens like it was flat out uncool to smoke and then They came out with nicotine injector flash drives that light up and taste like cotton candy. And have lead in them.

‘capitalism works’ factoid actually untrue. the 62 people who own half the world’s wealth are outliers and should be eaten.

Character concept for an urban fantasy story:
A guy who looks 100% human but is dressed like an orc, walks like an orc, speaks the local Orcish dialect as fluently as a native speaker, and is covered in orc tattoos. One with a more educated eye on the matter could see that the tattoos are not human mimicry of orc tattoos, but the genuine real deal. Orcs do not tattoo anyone outside of their own tribe, and if you ask the guy how he got them, he looks insulted and says that his grandma made them for him. His last name is an orcish clan name.
On a second look, one could guess that he's a half-orc who inexplicably just managed to not inherit any physical traits from his other parent. He is, however, not a half-orc. His little sister is, though. Their mother doesn't have any family of her own, and he was two years old when the two of them escaped from his father. He has no memory of his father, and doesn't care to have a human family - his stepfather's family is their family now.
He doesn't know his biological father's name, where he lives, or whether he's even alive or not. He's entirely unaware that his father died years ago, alone in his home, from a mysterious spontaneous case of Orc Dagger Shoved Down His Throat.

I lvoe reading fablehaven cause the adult characters r so concerned with the children.. like other books like this will jsut let the kids go into dangerous traumatising situations but Mr Warren "she's a minor im not giving her a weapon" Burgess is putting kendra is 20 million scarfs and telling her to hide at any possibly moment. 10/10 alot of child endangerment but damn they are trying really hard

I’m rereading Fablehaven and I think this series is another good example of the “charcater shows smart use of modern weapons one time and then promptly forgets and they all go back to swords” problem because I just got to the scene where Dale pulls out a shotgun on a demon creature and as far as I remember, it just… never comes up again
Even Dale later on fights with swords/spears/crossbows, and he’s the one who showed the initiative to try firearms in the first place. And it’s shown at a few points that weapons don’t necessarily have to be magical to work on magical creatures, so what’s stopping everyone from using modern weaponry?
This troupe just bothers me so much
(Now, the fact that he is using a shotgun in close quarters in a small attic room with people he’s trying to protect right there is another problem, but we’re not going to get into that here)

I still think of the time I use these type of quotations mark in a TikTok comment « » instead of the American/english “” and a American started bullying me for using it and a European start defending me all while my French canadien ass was like « Wtf is happening??? »
Anyway yeah… American really need to understand that the internet cannot and should not be catered to their cultural use and norm…

I actually do feel like the "unemployed friend on a Tuesday" meme actually helps de-stigmatize unemployment because it frequently affirms that when you don't have a job you're more likely to be getting up to some weird shit rather than just lazing around. But I also feel like the unemployed friend is frequently up to some random shit because there's a whole pile of miscellaneous life tasks that full-time employment keeps people from. The unemployed friend is helping their cousin move, or babysitting, or checking in with a neighbor with mobility issues. The unemployed friend is a walking thesis on the inflexibility of our current labor landscape and just how much work exists outside of work.

“I asked ChatGPT if-”
Yeah, well, I asked the hag that secretly lives on the outskirts of my grandfather’s property. She said she’s answer me if I blow on her weird chewed-up rope and say “of my own free will I sever this knot”. It’s probably nothing. It’s probably fine to do that.
