In any fellowship, you need someone you can trust. Someone to be there always, and for anything. You've been arranged into pairs. Soulmates. Each soulmate was chosen to complement the other, and to accept responsibility for them.
The Skulls (dir. Rob Cohen, 2000)

Going nuts lately thinking about which characters in Black Sails are tormented by internalized homophobia and which ones just....aren't. Max has never been conflicted or hung up on her own sexuality for one second. Anne has to do two whole murders about it. Somehow Eleanor is entirely at peace with being the world's most unfortunate bisexual? John Silver would literally die before admitting he wants to smooch another dude. Thomas Hamilton is so famously without shame the writers made it half of his characterization. Flint's sexual hangups are so pervasive they drive the entire plot.

some people seem to think aotearoa new zealand is just fields and hills and grass. maybe some mountains. maybe a fjord or two. which is so fascinating to me because we have so many different biomes and landscapes it's bonkers.

One evening after chow […] I noticed one of company K’s two surviving officers carrying some books and papers down the company street in the twilight. He passed my tent and went to the fifty-five-gallon oil drum that served as a trash can. He held up a thick book and with obvious anger slammed it into the trash can. He then turned and walked slowly back up the street. Curious, I went out to have a look. The maps were combat maps of Peleliu. […] Then I found the book. It was a large hardback volume of about a thousand pages, bound in dark blue, obviously not a GI field manual or book of regulations. […] I looked at the spine of the book and read its title, Men at War by Ernest Hemingway. […] I opened the cover. In the twilight I saw written in a bold strong hand, A.A. Haldane.
With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa - by Eugene B. Sledge
