Science Museum:
When I went to the science museum in London I wanted to take images of things that linked to space.
A lot of this stuff I wanted to include making my robots, ray gun, landscape and isometric room.
I already had an idea of what I would like them to include therefore when at the museum I took photos of the things that linked with these.
I focused of equipment/technology looking objects so I could reference/include some of these in my isometric room. I also looked at a lot of the space ship models, this is because for my landscape I wanted to have a landed ship so by looking at these it helped me to come up with it’s look. Out of these I decided I really liked the look of the more simple design ship, because they seem like they could have more of a story behind them because I wanted the ship to look older and like it wasn’t prepared well for the journey, therefore the simple design is best.

Evaluation of ray gun
I am actually very impressed with the ray gun I created for this was my first time using the software.
I really like the colours I used in this because I think they contrast well with having the bright next to the dull colours. Having the coppers and silvers gave it a rustic/steampunk look which I was hoping to include but the green then giving it a modern SCI-FI look which I also wanted to mix in with it.
The shapes and layout of the gun went very successful however I feel as if I stuck to the basic idea of how a ray gun looks in everyone minds and I think I should of maybe explored more possibilities of how I could of made it. But regardless to that I think it was a very successful project.

Landscape Evaluation

With my landscape I created I was pretty pleased with the overall look of it although there are points I dislike.
The pats I found successful was the actual layout of my landscape with having the hills and the big lake with a sort of natural bridge built over it and I think the colours worked well here too.
I also liked how my idea of isolation can been seen in this with it having hardly anything around, however in some ways this is a down side too because I feel as if I could of done more with the thing I did then add in, like the space ship.
My original idea was to have a really basic ship to help build up a story, however i feel maybe this wasn’t the best way to of done it for nothing else was really happening in the area, so I shouldn’t of created a bigger scene out of that by including a larger ship with more rumple and debris around it.

Evaluation of isometric room
Personally I am overall pretty happy with the outcome of my isometric room. I like the idea of the room being a research lab and I am pleased with the objects and furniture I had created to go in the room.
I think the colour choices were successful too because I wanted to create a simple room design but with bright technology and objects on the shelf to make them have a space look to them.
However I think if I was given more time I would definitely added in way more science equipment and make the centre of the room appear less empty, and also experiment with the tools in this software more for I mostly stuck to the basics.
Another thing I could improve on was the amount of light I was letting/putting into the room because once the global Illumination was added areas of the room became very dark and it was them difficult for you too see the objects in that specific area.

Guillaume Kurkdijan
When I got a rough idea of the type of room I wanted to create, I then started looking into what I could make to go it the room, soon as it was a research lab style place.
I came across an illustrator/animated who made small isometric GIFs on cinema 4D.
The one I really liked and wanted to make a replica of in my work was this,
I really liked the whole look of this and how it looks like it would have many samples of things being tested in the tubes. Therefore I made it. However it wasn’t the exact same fore it didn’t have the screen and design on the front you got a rough look and idea of it.
This then led me to think of many other things could include, such as a head set, test tubes with bright liquid in, boiling tubes etc.

SCI-FI landscapes
When looking into creating my own landscape I researched other peoples ideas and took inspiration from them adding parts into mine.
This is an example of one of the images I looked at, the reason I chose this is because I really liked the idea of having a desert area with not much around to give it an isolated feel. Therefore when creating my landscape I created only a few objects in the entire map and used the sand texture given already in the program to get a successful desert look.
This is another image that particularly gave me an idea for my landscape. The look of this with the giant lake and the hills in the distance stood out to me. Therefore I decided to add this in, however when I did this I felt my area didn’t look SCI-FI enough when the water was just coloured naturally. I then decided I would use the colour I use on my ray gun (a bright glowing green) instead because that’s what made my ray gun give it the space look. I changed the opacity of the green to make it look more like a liquid also.
Images like this one gave me the inspiration of adding in a crashed ship to my landscape. However unlike this one I wanted to create a really simple looking ship to add a it of backstory too it, giving it the look of whoever arrived obviously wasn’t very well prepared and that something obviously didn’t go too well for them.
Real Planet surfaces:
I also looked at images of the moons surface to get a real idea of how the landscape in like in space, it mostly appeared rocky and dusty which again gave my another reason for wanting to use a sand texture in mine.
I also looked at the surface of mars and how it has been seen/portrayed and again it was a dusty sandy texture, fitting in with mine piece.

What is Cinema 4D and how can it be used?
3D MODEL: A 3d model, is something you create, whether that is digitally or physically that is three dimensional ( having or appearing to have length, breadth, and depth.)
3D models are used in a lot of things, such as games and films but can also just be created on there own.
Cinema 4D is a computer software that allows you to create 3D models, animations and other things.
It is a pretty simple software to use after you have got hang of the basics of it, however it has many possibilities on there that you probably don’t even know are there.
With this software you can practically make what ever you like, such as, rooms, object, landscapes, game maps and so on.
For this project we used it to create a landscape, Isometric room and a alien weapon of some sort (ray guns mostly)
Here is some examples of things you can make on here:
Looking at these images it looks very difficult to used based on textures lighting, shapes and placement, but to be fair, a lot of the shapes required to make these are already available and same with the colours/textures too.
With lighting you can either get fancy with it and create your own or you could just add a physical sky and it will do it all for you, working out shadows and highlight with it.

What is isometric?
An isometric view is drawing an object in 3D, however all the lines are at the same angle, for example,
An isometric room is essentially creating this isometric shape but having depth about it giving it a 3D look when they are all done on a 3D software.
Examples of hand drawn Isometric Rooms:
As you can see, each of the walls and the objects within the room tilt at the same angle giving it a 3D illusion.
Cinema 4D Isometric rooms:
With a cinema 4D isometric room I feel they are a lot better for you can add in a lot more details with each object and you can get the lighting of the room done how it would be like in real life, which I personally gives it a much better look all together.

Gertie The Dinosaur
youtube
Gertie the dinosaur was a hand drawn animation created in 1914 by Winsor McCay.
The time this was created animation wasn’t really a big thing and was rarely done, so then this was amazing.
Looking back now after watching the animation that is around today you can see how this was very simple and not too complicated to do. As you can see many of the frames in this animation are reused and looped a lot which saves a lot of time in the making, you can also see a lot of movement and jolting with the background.
Lighting seems to also be a big issue in this animation for you can see each frame either gets lighter or darker making the whole animation flicker and sometimes make the background difficult to see in some places.
However aside form those factors the movement was done pretty well and the use of shadows helped a lot to bring it to life.

Examples of Other Peoples Hand Drawn Animations
Both of these animations are done very well and the action within it flows nicely and has good timing for each frame, the movement is done accurately.
The first one I would say is definitely a lot more complicated due to the colours and background used in it, even though a lot of the time it is on a loop with simple movement, where as the other follows just a monochrome character, however the second one seems to have a much more complicated transition it it from animal to animal.
These animations are actually done in a different style to mine but the principles of it still stay the same.
I actually think I prefer the drawn out frame by frame animations because they give a really nice look compared to mine, but then that could be because a lot more time was given to these, for I only had limited amount of days.

Animation Cel
A cel is a transparent sheet on which objects are drawn or painted for traditional, hand-drawn animation.
The characters are drawn on cels and laid over a background which again is often drawn out.
Using a cel reduces the number of times an image has to be redrawn which makes the process quicker for you can use a cell multiple times. Things like Lion King, snow white and other Disney film use these.

This links to what I did with my work because I made a few 'cel' type drawings for my animated GIF and reused them for different motions reducing the time it took for me to create my animation.

The Zoetrope
A zoetrope is one of several pre-filmanimation devices that produce the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of that motion.
The zoetrope is a cylinder with slits cut down the sides. On the inside of the cylinder is a series of photos that change slightly each time. As the cylinder spins, you look through the side and the pictures within it blur together almost, creating a small animation.

This idea of a Zoetrope links to what we did with our animations, however, instead of it being in a cylinder and coming together, the animation came together once the frames had been put together with the right spread per frame.

What is an AI?

Artificial intelligence is the branch of computer science concerned with making computers behave like humans.
An AI can learn, think and do for itself based on the environment around it. Despite this it still doesn’t make them ‘human’ or have a 'soul’ I think this because:
1, humans can feel pain weather that is physical or mental.
2, We can dream/imagine/creativity.
3, we can adapt to who we are around quickly, we don't have to be taught it.
4, we can feel attraction and love.
5, Guilt and Sympathy
6, Morals
7, Happiness and laughter
8, Interests and hobbies
9, Determination
10, Reproduce/Death
And loads more, AI’s don’t have the ability to really do any of those things. They simply learn form behaviour and copy this, there is no real attachment within them.

Turbo Kid Review

Turbo Kid is a 2015 movie based on the world after the ‘apocalypse’ and how everyone has changed due ti this. It has a SCI-FI, comedy and in a way horror genre simply based on the gore within it.
My personal opinion on the film is a good one due to these mixed genres.
The story is pretty obvious and easy to follow however the script and characters are the things that make it so unique.
The effects used in this film were used and placed in very well, they didn’t look out of place or unnecessary.
The costumes used in this were well suited to the movie story because the ‘villains’ of the movie wore masks and outfits that looked as if they were created with scraps which was apt to the apocalyptic scenes.
With the main robot character Apple, you felt drawn in by because she was this robot that was able to have the emotions she did. One of the things I liked about her was the fact that at the start of the film her character came across as dim and innocent, as if she had no idea how to look after herself. As the film progressed you saw the change in the character as she got more confident and her innocence stated to leave after fighting. But he hole purpose in life I suppose that she wanted is someone to be with her so she wasn’t alone.
The effets used on Apples arm were used successfully because even though they didn’t fit and bled in to her skin, it then gave this more robot futuristic look about her, reminding you she wasn’t human.
But overall I actually really enjoyed the movie and would definitely watch it again.

My animation
When making my first trial I found that it didn’t go as smoothly as I wanted. The lighting changed through out the day, the tripod kept moving so each frame shifted and the movement changed speeds and did’t look as I wanted it too.
Therefore when it came to my second try I made sure I had a more secure tripod and that it wasn’t anywhere that was going to create drastic change in lighting.
As for the movement I used more frames in the front animation to make it slower and more in time with the other movements.
This actually turned out really well and I am impressed with the final result. The only down sides to it is the small bits of reflection on the acetate and there was also a small nudge of the paper at the end, but apart from that the movement and lighting worked really well with it.
Also the file was way to big for tumblr so we had to resize the image size making it quite small and difficult to see.

Marty Cooper Animations
Marty Cooper had a unique way of making animations. Instead of, like a rotoscope, adding in the animation to real images after he did them when taking each frame.
He would have his characters on acetate sheets and hold them up to an environment making them look as if they where there then capture the frame. He would go along doing this until he was finished. This actually gave a really nice look even though his hand was in every shot. He was more focused on the animation itself to really care about his hand.
I actually really like this style and even though it has this obvious look that it isn’t real it still some how tricks the mind almost to think that it’s there because of the movement.
