First love?

So i’ve been tasked to write a blog for film criticism. My first assignment is to write about my first love. How am I supposed to write a story about something I had no experience of? They said, “just lie and come up with something”. Now, i’m not a person to lie. But even lying seems impossible for me when you had zero experience.

FESENI 2019

Being the enthusiastic freshman I am, I went to watch FESENI 2019. For the sake of watching my friend whom had trained really hard for weeks and months (even if it cost injury to her leg) I went to queued up outside of DTC as soon as I got off from class. It was a Monday night. The queue were so long you’d mistaken it as a queue for a BTS concert. As early as I am, it was obvious that the others made it there even earlier. Never thought a small performance of Chinese traditional dance would hyped up a almost a half of the Chinese community of University of Malaya.

Long before the latter, we’ve been hyped up by some of our seniors even as early as MHS week. To my knowledge, it’s something of an art festival for the students to take part in representing their residential college. Though, not all of the participants are dance major or performance art major but the effort they put into their performance can really outdo some of the professionals. And that really made me thought about my worth.

It’s pretty well known that students in UM are quite competent. There is at least something special of everyone that had made it here. Must I say that UM students are overachiever from every field. Being a science students won’t stop their love for arts and music. And this type of activities are exactly the platform they need to express themselves and showcase that talent. Though I wish they’d have more than just performance art in FESENI. It may be a competition but it isn’t entirely about winning, it was all about the experiences. (As cliche as it may sounds) 

On the other hand, it also exposed me to some niche performance art, such as Boria. Before Feseni I’ve never even heard of it. My partner from the campus radio had told me about it and encourage me to go watch it, And I was not disappointed at all. I would say it’s more of a Malay musical, Greatest showman type. That was a very cultural experience. Love the singing, love the dancing.

I haven’t write anything for such a long time. So I thought I should update a little about my life. So far, things been okay in uni. We’re heading to the end of my second semester of my freshman year really soon. I’ll be a sophmore next year YEeee. Actually no, that means more shit coming up next semester.
