IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR was really a “cover of a cover’ as we based our 80s guitar jangle on the Roxy Music version which we loved. We later recorded this song acoustically for the Boston Does Motown compilation, which I found odd because In the Midnight Hour is ATLANTIC soul!

SOUL KITCHEN recorded live on WCUW-FM Worcester MA in June of 1986.
This was a signature cover for Childhood and we loved playing it, Greg and Danny especially!

ROOM TO BREATHE is the title song of Childhood’s second 4-song EP, recorded in 1987/88 and released (on vinyl) in the spring of 1988.
It was mostly recorded at DOWNTOWN RECORDERS in Boston’s South End, with other work done at PYRAMID STUDIOS in NYC and BLACKBEARD STUDIOS in RI.
At the time we were more than ready to shed the young/cute/pop band image that had been painted on us by the press (and our Boston peers) and we took a darker path, multi-tracking different guitar layers, adding piano, percussion, horns, strings, sound effects, gang vocals and washing it all down with whiskey and cynicism.
The results were well received - we sold records, got good reviews in the Boston press and solid airplay on WBCN, WFNX, WAAF and college radio, and upped our game and reputation with this release.

BIO BIO BIO....
Originally from Marlborough MA, Kenny Ebell has been a performing musician since the age of ten.
By the end of high school he had traded his trumpet for an electric bass guitar and microphone and was fronting the popular local band MIDNITE SUN with best friend Scott Ricciuti, playing area nightclubs, proms, weddings and parties.
Kenny began writing songs during this time and he and Scott formed the original rock outfit CHILDHOOD - who recorded and performed with regional success in the 1980s-90s - winning the prestigious WBCN Rock and Roll Rumble in 1987 as Boston’s best new band. Kenny recorded and released four records with CHILDHOOD and then abruptly quit the band and moved to Vermont where he semi-retired from music and raised a family.
Kenny re-emerged in the Sunapee NH band LITTLE ROCK, this time playing piano and singing classic rock and country covers. At this time he also formed the unique lounge trio COLD DUCK in his hometown Worcester-Boston area, where he satisfied his appetite for finding long-lost rock, country and R&B nuggets and shaping them to his own particular style of “Honky Tonk Soul.”
Kenny’s most recent Northern New England bands have included ROUTE 11 and BACKROAD and he continues to perform in Massachusetts with CHILDHOOD and also HUCK - who reunite periodically to pay tribute to friend and bandmate Ricciuti, who died tragically in a car accident in 2012.
Kenny currently performs a vocal-piano solo act where he takes his Honky Tonk Soul style to even further depths of discovery, uncovering and re-imagining obscure rock and roll, country and R&B songs from the 30s-90s, including many he has written or co-written.
He ties these songs and styles together with humor, a little history and a memorable voice.

Before HUCK there was CHILDHOOD, and before THINNER there were the UNDERTHINGS, RESISTANCE, CHOOSY MOTHERS and POPSKULL (among others) One of the first times I met Danny (Rugburn) McGee he was being carried onstage in a coffin at Chets Diner. From there we played more shows together in the next thirty years than should have been allowed (if we are counting hangovers). When Danny joined our good friend Neil from RESISTANCE and Craig to form THINNER it was an explosion of talent that has truly lasted.
The common thread, as always, was the friendship all of these bands shared with each other and our fans. Well, these days the Gods are not being as kind to Danny and Neil as they deserve and so we are gathering the forces that remain to help them through a difficult time
SUNDAY DECEMBER 1 AT RALPHS DINER IN WORCESTER - 5 to 10 PM HUCK and CHILDHOOD will be appearing with our good friend Jim Weeks and LITTLE BIG WHEEL as well as FAT RANDY (Neil’s son Connor’s original band) and special guest DAVID MINEHAN of the NEIGHBORHOODS!
Please come help celebrate THINNER and their musical legacy and help Danny and Neil in their recovery. There is going to be a major raffle w/cool prizes, great musical entertainment and best of all – We can all be together once more rocking out at Ralphs – Friends and Hugs and Rock and Roll!
