*This is a lot of (9) Black & White pictures developed and printed on postcards. This actually was a very common practice way back when.
*The first (4) pictures are from October 23, 1924. The other (5) were taken on May 20, 1925. All of the pictures were taken by Alvin C. Schwalm, Pine Grove, Pennsylvania.
All (9) pictures have Route 140-1 Pine Grove, PA. written on the top border. The following is what is written on the bottom border.
*(1) Placing tile under drain, fine grading near barn.
*(2) Forms-Fine Grade, Batch trucks preparing to unload.
*(3) Side View Koehring 21E Mixer
*(4) Koehring 21E Six Bag Mixer, [a couple words I cannot make out], slab to each batch.
*(5) Setting forms, laying 18" rap, batch trucks in the rear.
*(6) Sub grade ready for forms and fine grade.
*(7) Koehring 21E Paver, with skip down, loaded with batch
*(8) Old finishing machine.
*(9) Concrete in place for final finishing.
**The last picture is of an advertisement that I included to show what the Koehring machine is. The piece of machinery is officially known as the Koehring 21E Heavy Duty Paver Derrick Power Hoist, built by Koehring in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
**I believe all trucks shown are Mack Trucks.
***This set of (9) pictures is most likely not complete, but are most likely the only ones to have survived 96 years. Back in the early 1900's and thru the years companies would have pictures documenting the jobs that were being worked on or completed to show perspective customers just what the company could handle. So very few copies were made if any, besides the original pictures.
The asking price for this extremely rare lot of (9) B & W photos...$35.00.

Ephemera are any transitory written or printed matters that are not meant to be retained or preserved. The word derives from the Greek ephemeros, meaning "lasting only one day, short-lived". Some collectible ephemera are advertising trade cards, airsickness bags, bookmarks, catalogues, greeting cards, letters, pamphlets, postcards, posters, prospectuses, defunct stock certificates or tickets, and zines. Some examples...

This three volume set, I picked up awhile back, 1901 German Medical Books. Absolutely gorgeous set, the condition was near mint, hundreds of illustrations and about a dozen fold outs of the human body and more specifically the skull. They definitely did not hold back when showing examples of how disease ravaged the body.

KEN PAUL'S POTBOILER
[Established](2015)[2000]
[The History behind Ken Paul's...]
*Although the name Ken Paul's Potboiler was established in 2015, I've been buying and selling primarily Old Books, Antiques, Emphera, and so forth since about 2000. It all started with an Auction. I didn't spend much but ended up buying roughly 30 boxes, 20 of those being books, of those boxes, 15 were loaded with books ranging from 1840-1920.
*I fell in love with these "old books", the gilded lettering or raised lettering of covers, the binding, the illustrations, such pride and truly craftsmanship was put in creating books.
*Where did I get my inspiration for the name well my name is Kenneth Paul Heffentrager and reading a story about "pulp paperbacks", I came across "Potboiler", looked up the meaning and loved it.
*Definition of "Potboiler"
A potboiler or pot-boiler is a novel, play, opera, film, or other creative work of dubious literary or artistic merit, whose main purpose was to pay for the creator's daily expenses—thus the imagery of "boil the pot", which means "to provide one's livelihood". Authors who create potboiler novels or screenplays are sometimes called hack writers or hacks. Novels deemed to be potboilers may also be called pulp fiction.
*Another Definition
Potboiler (Noun)
"An artistic work, usually of low quality, that has been created quickly just to earn money".
So welcome to Ken Paul's Potboiler, where you will see mostly books, some can be bought, while others are some past favorites, as well as some other interesting items. Hope you enjoy...
