Summer fruit:

Tart mulberries from the tree outside my window.

Blueberry juice staining my fingers while a chipmunk ate from a different bush, a swelling hum of frogs and cicadas.

Getting tangled in thorns in order to harvest some of the sweetest blackberries.

Wild mountain strawberries that taste like jam on their own.

Finding only plums far too rotten to eat but not minding at all, watching the swarm of butterflies and bees enjoying them.

Filling basket after basket of wineberries, glowing like stained glass rosette windows in the sun. Sparkling water with elder flower syrup and wineberry puree.
