Ideal for a summer container is the Southern Africa bulbous perennial Eucomis bicolor (pineapple lily bulb). The wavy, strap-shaped leaves appear in spring and then purple-spotted stems bearing racemes of star-shaped pale green flowers appear, topped with a terminal rosette of leafy bracts.

The Roselle hibiscus is producing!! You’ll see hibiscus dried up in shops, but you can use it fresh as well. I take the pseudo-fruits and bruise or cut them up before steeping them. Then I pour them over ice and fizzy water and a little vanilla for a fizzy iced tea!
