Tips for Baby Witches: Cleansing
A basic knowledge every baby witch needs to know is how to cleanse your work space. You don’t want to be using a tainted item or invite negative energy into your work. There are many techniques to cleanse your work space.
Smoke cleansing: Using a match, a candle, an incense stick or Sage (*** this may be a closed practice, ask ahead of time if you can***), you can light them and stop the flame, causing smoke to come out. This is a popular method for Jar spell cleansing and making a prayer area and riding of bad energy. This is also popular in grounding yourself.
Sound cleansing: You can use a bell, I use a spoon against another spoon. This is my preferred method because I'm allergic to strong scents so I will almost always try to use a non-smoky method. You can make a ringing noise using a cup or a bowl if you’d like.
Water: placing your container or certain stones (not all crystals should be placed in water) in a naturally running stream or lake/river is a great way to cleanse what you’re using. Note: Make sure it’s not muddy or unclean water.
These are the forms of cleansing I am familiar with and I personally use on a  regular basis. There are other forms such as Moon/Sun cleansing where you leave your object in moonlight or sunlight but I'm not very familiar with these so I will not say anything about them. Using crystals is also popular, but I do not use this method personally either.

Tips for Baby Witches: Jar Spells
You’re looking to start making Jar spells but you don’t know where to start?
First, buy a jar. (I personally go to the dollar store, sometimes they have little packs of 3 or 4 jars that are pretty small and concealable) It doesn’t matter if its a cork jar, a twisty lid jar, or a clamp lid, it just has to be a jar you can close and put stuff in.
You can also acquire tea lights sized candles at the dollar store. Remember, colours represent different intentions and aspects of your spell. You wouldn’t use a red candle for a protection spell, right? You’d use a white or a black one.
Next, you can collect a small, yet very popular selection of herbs for Spell Jars. Depending on the kind of spells you want to do, different herbs correspond to different things.
I recommend at least starting with the following ingredients. These are items you can easily find in your own kitchen.
Salt, Honey, Thyme, Sage, Lavender, Bay leaves, Cinnamon, Rosemary, Nutmeg, Cloves.
One important thing to remember, is every herb and spice have different meanings. Don't throw them in all crazy. Do your research, what does Salt do, what does Sage do, what does Patchouli do, etc.
Crystals are also part of these spells such as :Aventurine, tiger’s eye, quartz, rose quartz, moonstone, citrine, etc. These are very popular and very common for Jar spells and they’re usually inexpensive (if they’re expensive for a few small ones, step away you’re being scammed). You can reuse them (but make sure to cleanse them). Like the herbs, each crystal has a different meaning, make sure to research which ones go best with your spell.
Some good places to find basic, beginner jar spells is Tiktok, google and youtube. You can also find a discord channel that specialises in paganism, polytheism and magic in general .
There’s loads of people willing to help baby witches and Magick-curious folk. Always remember to get a second opinion on authenticity if you are new to this.
