a/n: requested by lovely @donivanessdoodles <3 loved the prompt you picked. i feel like comparing hand sizes is such a power move when you haven‘t held their hands before but really, really want to. even though this is a bit different scenario, i still had much fun writing this! word count: 517

„You know, being a warlord doesn‘t excuse you from hogging the blanket all for yourself.“

With a groan you roll over to your side, facing your partner who is lying in bed next to you. The first rays of sunshine are crawling into the bedroom, kissing spots of his skin with the softest shades of orange and the warmth of a heart on fire. A slight smile curls around his lips and only the sight of this alone almost makes you forget that, once again, you woke up freezing because a certain someone stole the blanket last night — as usual.

„Good morning to you too, my love.“

He pulls you into his arms with ease, ignoring your huffing and puffing as he wraps the blanket around you, pulling it up to the tip of your nose. His grip around you is so tight that you couldn‘t possibly wiggle out of it even if you tried. Defeat suddenly felt very warm and comforting and had a heartbeat that drummed under your fingertips.

„What do you have to say in your defense?“, you mumble into his chest as you melt under his touch, your tired eyes fluttering, trying hard to shake off the heaviness that comes with each new morning. You can feel Crocodile smiling against your lips, as if his kisses alone could soothe your anger (they could).

„Well, for once I am much taller than you are and therefore need more of the blanket. See?“

He takes your hand in his, placing a kiss on the back of it first before your palms meet each other. Granted, he was right about the size difference. His hand was almost twice your size, his fingers long and slender, elegant in their own way. The golden rings on each finger gave off an opulent vibe, but to be fair everything about him did, from the way he dressed to the way he talked, how he spoiled you even though he pretended like he didn‘t.

„You promised to keep me warm back then, do you remember?“, you murmur, eyes still lingering on your hand in his. There was something so intimate about it, as if he was offering you all of his secrets from the palm of his hand; a hand that had blood on it and yet was still so very gentle with you, almost as if you were made out of glass.

„How could I ever forget? It was the day I laid down my heart, right here…“

His hand curls around yours, guiding it to his lips where he places a dozen soft kisses on it, from your wrist to your fingertips. How much does a heart weigh? How can a heart have claw marks on it and yet still beat so steady in the absence of fear? How loud can a heart sigh under the tender touch of a lover?

You still had to find out; but you had time as long as the sun decides to rise again with every new day, dipping the love you held for each other in the warmest shades of gold.
