My Uther expressions sketch-dump is finally finished. I feel so proud. Behold, my beautiful son.
I had such a fun time drawing all these, and I took inspiration from all over. This was such a fun exercise for me, and I got to practice drawing a singular character over and over with different facial expressions and angles. I think he’s such an amazing character.

Apparently, my decision to be silly and make fanart of someone's writing (because I genuinely enjoy the story the person is writing and I was struck with inspiration upon reading a particular scene) has benevolent and wildly unforeseen consequences.
I apparently gained a bit of control of the canon because said writer really loved the art and decided what I drew/draw is canon.
2. Writer put said artwork into the document of his story right below the scene, so now it's IN the story where people who read the story will see it (with a link to me)
3. He sent the artwork to all his friends and people he knows because he was so excited
Wholesome interaction and I watched him do all that in real time, good stuff. However...there are two more consequences I was notified of today...nearly a full week after I gave the artwork.
Seeing the artwork caused his friends to become interested in reading and hearing about his story, which means more people are reading what he's writing and giving him critique on the story (which he actively asks for).
Apparently, upon seeing the art, his writer friends got a sudden second wind to pick back up writing they'd abandoned for a few months. Because, I quote, "seeing that someone enjoyed {his} writing enough to take the time to make art of it gave them the motivation that maybe THEY can write something that will inspire someone to also create something." I have accidentally caused a writing frenzy among his writer friends and my silly idea to make art for someone has had a butterfly effect for people who I don't even know.
Uhh...I'm pretty sure there's a moral here but I am tired and have a great deal of emotions about this.

I'd argue it's often even more removed from the individual - something closer to "the prevalence of certain thematic elements in any society or smaller social group within it is something that may be reflective of certain shared experiences or beliefs within that society or group, especially when viewed through a lens that takes into account current and recent historic events, and studying these themes with respect to sociopolitical conditions can reveal interesting trends and correlations which can merit further study"
But maybe that's just me. I think it can be Interesting for someone to examine their media preferences in that it can be revelatory of truths about themself...but it's not something they are responsible for doing as some Social Obligation, I definitely think it something they are in no way, shape, or form responsible for sharing with anyone whether they have or have not done that, nor the conclusions they've drawn
In sum, I think that being curious and introspective about things is generally good for a bitch. It's also owed to nobody. And a lot of things say far less about the individual than they do about the social context in which they were created, including micro levels.
i think the reason "fiction affects reality" trips so many people up is because they think it means "engaging with media that depicts uncomfortable subjects will taint your soul" when really all it means is that "fiction is meant to reflect certain ideas of the world intentionally or not, and it's going affect your perception of it, if you don't go in with a healthy bit of skepticism"

so many. stupid fucking people. smugly wrong. the term . "all art is political". does not mean. every artist puts political intent into their work. no. the guy drawing dicks on the subway did not intend any deep message by it. HOWEVER. all art. IS political. he chose to draw that dick. for a reason. society shaped what he finds funny. what he finds shocking. the fact he chose to draw a dick at all says something about his society. actually, the fact it is a dick and not a pussy is itself political. we are all. ALL. shaped by our environments. in an alternate universe a woman is drawing a vulva on the wall. and shes saying "TCH! this isnt political. stupid liberals". all art. has political CONTEXT. that is a more specific way to phrase it. because we live in a society. who has access to art? where is the art located? who is the artist? why did they draw that in that specific location. what led to them even having the sharpie they used to draw the dick to begin with. their society shaped their tools! their society shaped their choice of subject! their society shaped the location of their art! but these people are too stupid to understand this. so theyll continue pretending that they are not shaped by their political environment. SAD!

For the longest time I opted on the side of "no coffee, potatoes, etc" in fantasy writing, on the argument that if I was writing a pseudo-european medieval story, featuring elements brought to Europe by colonialism would imply the existence of colonialism, and if I was going to include that kind of elements, I could not just mention them casually, it would have to be a major theme of the story.
Then I scrolled past a post on tumblr specifically about "can you have potatoes in a fantasy setting for no reason" that had pics of Peruvian potato farmers and asked "are you really too much of a coward to not write these people into your stories?" (the tone was probably not that accusative, I paraphrase from my own perspective of this), and something clicked in my head, and this epiphany manifested in my head as Gordon Ramsay yelling
"IT WAS NOT THE FUCKING COLONIALISM THAT INVENTED THE FUCKING POTATO."

i had a dream that tumblr implemented a new feature where you could put physical items in someone's ask box so you could send handwritten letters and notes and stuff, but in practice you ended up needing to clean out your ask box weekly because people would just fill it with stuff like wet leaves and sand and ketchup

Honestly I support female characters in also being one-note cardboard antiheroes with one single defining character trait (insubordination), maybe two (dead husband) if the movie is really long
