thought of a rlly good metaphor 4 what having npd feels like while talking so im gonna make a post about it.

essentially, we’re kind of like glass cups. attention is like water, which gets poured in2 us. different cups need different amounts of water in order 2 feel right.

when we’re empty, we feel awful. depression-like symptoms set in. which is why we really want water 2 be poured in2 us. when we’re full of water, we feel at our best. like we’re on top of the world.

but when we’re full like that, having something ego-shattering happen, or 4 the sake of this metaphor, getting tipped over and spilling all of that water everywhere can feel devastating, bcuz suddenly we’re empty all over again.

2 help keep up that good feeling, we might do things we think get us the most attention. we advertise ourselves as the Best Cups. we might try 2 make it seem like other cups are Lesser. while its not healthy, its also not out of a desire 2 be malicious. its bcuz we dont want 2 be empty again. we need someone 2 give us that water, bcuz otherwise, the emptiness can make us feel useless or unwanted.

so if you know any “glass cups”, try 2 show them that they don’t Need 2 make other cups feel lesser. show them patience and understanding when theyre empty. show them that you’ll gladly give them that water. show them that their fears that they’ll be useless otherwise are just that- fears.

Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.

have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.

and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.

black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.

if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.

Who's cares if Chara is a child? That's no excuse. They're a literal spawn of Satan who tore a family apart and had their son killed. Heck, they even got Asgore sick. They took them in and this is how they repay them? And now, thanks to them, Toriel has become a bitter old cow towards Asgore, all because he was angry for losing his son. She's acts out like she's the one who lost everything, when Chara is to blame for all of this. I wish they saw the truth behind what REALLY took their son.
