Robert was a country boy. He grew up around animals and has the look of someone who understands nature. Of course, he might just have been thinking: “How the fuck did you end up on my hand?” Because but I think there’s more to it than that. It’s a look of calm, understanding and respect. I was happy with it, but you know what? If you’re a professional photographer in my line of work and you can’t get a great photo of Robert Plant, you should probably quit your job and go sell donuts.”

The thing I love most about Robert’s career is that we (even those of us who were born decades after Zeppelin), the audiences, got to essentially watch him grow up. We got to watch (through crappy YouTube bootlegs) this 19 year old kid from the black country grow up to be one of the most incredible performers ever and then grow beyond that title and explore and keep reaching new and beautiful heights. And through every stage of life, as far as I can see, he has been nothing but radiant, charming, firm in his values, and a lover of all. And as a musician and as a person, that’s so inspiring to me. Have the happiest birthday, golden god

He was one of these men who would go to the after show parties and he'd look particularly for the fans who were there, who he knew were out of place and shouldn't be there inasmuch as they didn't know anybody else in the room. He would make it his business to go over and talk to them and put them at ease. He'd make a beeline for them rather than the journalists or the people who were hanging off his coat tails.
