I love how in The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-winkle, Lucie is completely clueless that Mrs. Tiggy-winkle is a hedgehog until the very end when she doesn’t have clothes on and is running on all fours.
Sweetie, I think you need glasses.

This lovely little lady joined my Beatrix Potter collection today. She has a darling little smile on her face and, like Jeremy Fisher, she reminds me of the old animations.

This book has been sat on my shelf for three years. Thought it was about time I got around to reading some of it, and what better time of year to read Poe thsn during the spookiest month of the year?

First update in a while - work is crazy and I’ve been listening to podcasts more than I’ve been reading - but I added a Jeremy Fisher (c. 1950) to my Beatrix Potter collection today.
Was very tempted by a lovely Mrs Tiggywinkle and a Tommy Brock, but Jeremy Fisher reminds me of the old animations and was just too lovely to leave behind.

Not a full blown book, but might I suggest Neil Gaiman's short story 'Click Clack the Rattlebag'? It's available as a reading from Neil on his YouTube and it's one of my faves. I believe he has some other horror-esque stories in a small collection called Neil Gaiman's Likely Stories which was adapted into little episodes for Sky Arts. If I looked through his other short story collections I'd probably find a few more. His stories definitely tend to be of the sinister atmospheric kind.
Creepy books, anyone?
‘Tis the season for diving more into creepy, spooky, eerie, unsettling, and otherwise chillingly delicious reads, and–as always–I’m desperately on the hunt for some good choices.
I’m rarely actually moved to feel any of the promised sensations and emotions horror stories are supposed to cause (blame it on my parenting; being brought up watching horror movies from diaper-age will do that, I suppose).
The only books I can think of off the top of my head that have instilled some form of unease in me are The Woman in Black by Susan Hill, M.R. James’s ghost stories, The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon, and Bird Box by Josh Malerman.
Basically, I think the kind of horror stories that actually work for me are the atmospheric ones. The feeling of impending doom (or being watched, etc.) slowly creeps up on you, without you even realizing it until you almost jump out of your skin at 2AM when your cat lands on your lap while you’re reading :p
Any suggestions are most welcome and greatly appreciated!
