On selling snakeoil.
During my past years at various corporations, I have noticed a trend among consultants to sell snakeoil i.e. stuff that has no bearing on anything. This can be anything from psuedoscience that is MBTI (personality testing to see what you fit in) to Transforming Mindsets.
Though there are no exact values or actual worth that can withstand academic rigour, yet they are immensely popular. I would like to talk in particular "Changing Mindsets" through workshops and training.
In one word: Impossible. Why not? Because the workshops mostly are trying too hard to instill change when the person's own sense making is built on his or her own perceptions or schema. 
Schema is extremely hard to break. For example, cultural schema is notorious for causing massive resistance and so the person's mind will not change just because of some silly mindmaps.
No, the solution for change is to understand how people live i.e. as an organism. To ensure people develop the necessary change, it must owned, it must be a result of randomness, unplanned and therefore unique. 
This uniqueness is the awareness of a new schema. Something new, that can be good or bad but the change is made until another emergent idea appears.
I guess if you were to look at the movie 'Inception', the change is caused by an idea. That idea can only happen because the character is involved in the process from the beginning. Inception then occurs. 
So what does this mean for you? Well, if you would like to get fresh, exciting ideas. Think randomness, think utter madness, think chaos. And from there, work through it all. And you will get a fresh, new perspective.

To the departed
Over the years, I have had many people I know personally, die. This includes my family and friends, students and relatives. 
Loss of life for something we hold dear is inevitable, it is just a matter of when. Grieving is a natural process that we all must go through and for some, it's effect can be devastating.
None is as tragic as the loss of someone very close to you. How does one deal with the stress of loss? It is not something one can empathize unless the situation has been felt before. So is crying a good thing?
The answer to that question, is simply yes. Containing the loss through by repressing the feeling will lead to further stress and eventually lead to depression. Talking to someone you trust is very, very important to do. In Western society, the role of the psychologist is to understand the pathology of the mind. Listening to the person is very important, to try and get a feel of the underlying causes and in some cases clinical. 
The whole range of emotions, not just sadness, may appear but this is normal. Anger towards God, feelings of failure and hopelessness are some of the emotions that may appear. But I digress, what's this got to do with the post?
Well, that's got to do with how we cope with these feelings. As I mentioned earlier, crying is an important to do when grieving. In some societies, this is not allowed because of cultural beliefs. But this is against human nature. Humans grieve because they have an emotional bond to someone. If these bonds are tight and close, and then ruptured through loss, the human mind is affected deeply. It therefore, must be let out. Holding back the natural process of grieving will definitely surface in the person through rather unnatural ways like changes in personality. 
I do not offer sympathy (as this just makes feel people worse) to people who have had loss of their loved ones but I offer a way for them to look back at all the things that they had in their memory that pass in their minds every second. If you need to cry, you should. And if you need to talk, you must. Making you feel the emotions you have pent up inside and releasing them will make you feel better and see the here and now. It will define your perceptions, ideas and thoughts; a new awareness of life. 
Going ahead, it may seem all confusing and a bit of a roller coaster ride but that's what make us humans. Life is short, unpredictable and chaotic, but somewhere in there is a haven we always take shelter. What shape or form the haven is, well my dear readers, is up to you to find.
