Traveling alone for the first time
To travel alone for the very first time could be a bigger challenge then you´d expect it to be and I would recommend everyone to atleast travel once by theirself because I think it´s a good way to get out of your comfort zone, learn a lot about yourself but at the same time about others. How unpredictable people can be and simultaneously how helpful they can be. You learn a lot about other cultures, how to communicate if you don´t speak the same language, how to deal with unexpected situations and so much more. The first step will be the hardest, because you will be on your own in a new environment, but believe me it´ll be worth it.
The first time I was traveling on my own, it was a very spontaneous trip to Paris. I wanted to get away from university stress, get into a new environment because my room felt to small around me. So I booked my flight ticket approximately one day before my flight. I definitely wouldn´t recommend these circumstances in regard to the costs, but on the other side, I didn´t have the time to change my mind.
You´ll have to keep in mind, that when you´re traveling alone, you have a lot of time by yourself, which can be boring especially in the beginning. In advance of your first journey, you should take care of having something to do in the time that you´re not visiting the new city/country. My normal day while traveling looks like that: waking up around 7 am, getting breakfast and starting the day around 8 am. Visiting the city until 12. Getting some food if hungry. Trying to keep visiting the city until 2 pm. Being exhausted of a lot of walking so trying to find something to chill. That´s the time where I need to have something to keep myself busy. For me that´s normally reading a book. Depending on your mood maybe you still have some energy left to visit a new place but for me that´s normally the end of motivation in regard to visiting the city and it´s where the time for myself starts, which is a lot of time! And I don´t like to spend that time on my phone, since I´m in a new country, so yes the book is my go to.
Also remember: it´s normal to feel weird at the beginning. You´re away from home, you´re on your own, you feel like you want to go right back home. That´s normal! Especially in the beginning! So don´t feel like you should be excited and like you´re unthankful, because it´s a human reflex to flee the unknown and find a safe place.
