Our first Knights of Pen and Ink Press issue will be inspired by the first Tarot card in the Major Arcana sequence: The Fool. This card feels perfect for the start of our publication journey and we hope you take this leap of faith with us to make and grow this passion project into a reality.
The Fool is like the Joker card of a Tarot deck. It's associated number is 0 so it can be shown as both the start and end of the 22 cards in the Major Arcana series. Traditionally, the image on The Fool card shows a young man following a butterfly towards a cliff's edge with a dog nipping at his heels. He appears happily oblivious to the dangers both in front and behind of him.
While it can be a symbol of blissful ignorance, it's also a card for hope, new beginnings and for taking a chance on the unknown.
We would love for you to submit poems or illustrations inspired by the concept of The Fool, anything from the word itself, meanings both within or without Tarot, or the card/title's associated imagery. Feel free to interpret it in whatever way makes sense to you and your own experiences. Let The Fool be your clifftop and take the rise or fall!
The submission deadline is the 31st August midnight BST. Head to our website for more information on submission guidelines, terms & conditions, and the submission form :)
