Love as a Threshold

Party Tricks

[Original Ask List]

Juan sets a little fire and everyone makes a big deal about it. Tira (@tiravi) and Ambrose (@knowlsey) keeps them company. Lucas (@apothe-cary) is also there, technically.

“Why is everyone running?” asked a young elf making it through the door past scrambling patrons. “A fire.” “A party trick! Barely a fire! You all act like you haven’t seen the fire breather trick before. They do it in every market.” “Not indoors!”  “It’s gone now!”

Tira brought out two glasses, handing one over to Juan. “I ordered on your tab.”

“Of course you did,” they said, taking a sip from the pink drink. “What is that? It’s really good.”

“Rivaini rum, Antivan bitters, lime, and pineapple. Are you sure we should be doing another round?”

Juan looked to their other side and the elf snoozing on the bartop. “It’s fine. He looks comfortable. I didn’t even think an elf could go down after two.. Three glasses?”

“Oh. Yeah. That’s going to happen.” 

“Good to know,” they snickered over their drink.

“Be nice!”

“I am being nice! Honestly, it’s the cutest thing he’s done since I got here.” They scritched lightly at the back of his head, smiling to themself. “He’s infuriating.”

“You’d better take him home then. That’s not a comfortable way to fall asleep.”

“Believe me, I know!” they laughed again. “Okay. This drink. One more dance. Maybe a party trick then I’ll go.” 

“Oh! Party trick!”

Juan took one more glance at Lucas, making sure he was asleep before grinning widely. “Yeah. Okay.”

They ordered the highest proof alcohol they were allowed. They pulled a short flint knife from their boot. They scratched the knife, sending sparks into the air as they spit out the alcohol into a stream of fire. 

“Juan! The fire!”

“Yeah, party trick.”

“No over there!” Tira said, pointing to where it had caught on a spot on the ceiling.

“Gods, you’re so dramatic,” they said, flicking their wrist as a shard of ice cut through the air, spreading into a sheet over the flame, smothering it. 

By then it was too late with a few having already fled outside. They looked innocently at Tira, shrugging. “I thought you Rivaini liked to party.”

“Why is everyone running?” asked a young elf making it through the door past scrambling patrons.

“It’s gone now!” 

Ambrose cut in, “Is everyone okay?!” 

“Everyone’s fine,” Juan groaned. “Who are you anyway?”

“That’s Ambrose,” Tira offered. 

“You know everyone, don’t you?” they sighed and looked over. “Everyone’s fine, Ambrose. 

Ambrose looked at the hunched over man on the bar. “Even him?”

“He’s just sleeping.”

“People say that when someone’s dead.”

“He’s not dead! I like him. I wouldn’t kill him.” Juan stood on the bar top, yelling over the crowd. “Free round for everyone who shuts the fuck up about the fire!” 

There was a pause before a holler went into the air. The atmosphere quickly kicked back up to its previously raucous levels.

“Just like home,” Juan sighed. They turned and looked Ambrose up and down, grinning. “Get yourself a drink. I’m buying, apparently. And then tell me everything you know about these two.”

“I don't even know who that is.”

“Well, Tira then. All I know is that when she shows up, she robs me.” 

“Hey!”

“It’s true.”

“Oh, I can tell you about Tira.”

“Fantastic! Tell me everything.”

Hey, dear followers! Though my main commissions are currently closed, I wanted to share this Commission Special one last time before it's gone. For my dear Dragon Age Fans, I designed frames for each Faction represented in The Veilguard -- and I want to share them with you all a bit longer. I also need some help. I recently fractured my ankle, and I had issues with my car that I needed to take care of using my savings. So, at this time -- I am in need. First we did Tech. Now we have a Hunter. I think he turned out pretty nice. Looks great next to Tech. And now I kinda want to do the others plus Rex. Might have to do that.
