A bit of a wip in which Bob calls John daddy on accident during sexy times.

(posts this and hides okay 🤣 I cannot say absolutely anything in my defence but the fact that it got me Inspired)

Bob went to Disney World with his friend Rob, the summer before— everything went to hell. At 13 years old he was already tall and scrawny like a wheat spike, and he felt as if he could accidentally fall out of the roller coaster at any moment. It’s been decades since then, yet his brain is making him feel exactly as if he were dangling from a flimsy seat instead of sitting over the kitchen counter in the Watchtower and clinging to—

“You’re into that?”, asks John. “Well, I suppose I qualify as one”. 

He sounds— amused. Bob knows that John’s sarcasm is not aimed at him, but it still rubs him in all the wrong places. 

He lets out a weak laugh, because he doesn’t know how else to reply and because he’s not very sure he can actually manage another sound around the lump in his throat. Then he detaches his arms from John’s back and moves a little up the counter, trying to convince his heart that he’s not about to be torn to pieces by some mountain lion. 

“Hey— Bob”, John’s hand is gentle on his cheek, which Bob can feel irradiating shameful heat. At the very least, when he had nightmares about the roller coaster there was always the sweet perspective of hitting the ground and waking up and not this— this— “It’s okay. I don’t give a damn, okay? It’s fine”. 

John’s thumb moves a bit in some sort of caress. He’s left his other hand over Bob’s thigh, still half covered in— well. Bob focuses on that— John’s touch, and how the elastic of his half discarded boxers dig into his legs, and the way the polished surface of the counter feels cold and hard under his palms. 

After a couple of minutes, or maybe two or three hours, he can manage to sit up and look at John, who smiles a bit and asks: “You with me, buddy?”. 

He looks— flushed. Hair in disarray. His undershirt sticks to the hard plane of his sweaty abs and he can glimpse a thatch of dark blond hair going into his half undone jeans. He’s wearing one of those old, leather belts with a tacky gold buckle. It’s as if he’s just appeared from one of those 70s Marlboro ads. That’s what has made him think about— call him— 

“You’re big”, he starts before he loses his nerve. “Imposing”, he clarifies. “Very, uh, serious”, he adds, with a bit of a hand flourish to convey— something. He moves his hand a bit more, as if he’s trying to call in the right words and ends up saying, “but also you’re really nice when we, uh, when we’re together”, in lack of something better. “And I know you won’t— that I can—”, he tries to continue, ignoring the impulse of second guessing himself. “It’s not because of that”, he assures John.   

There’s some open window in the living room, and he can feel the slight breeze drying his sweat. He feels dirty and sticky and, frankly, quite a bit ridiculous.

1. Accidental Catalyst, Emotional Trigger

John accidentally opening the container that freed Bob puts him directly at the center of the Sentry/Void dynamic. And the way he snapped at Bob—harsh, emotional, raw—wasn’t just a plot beat. It mirrored the kind of intense psychological friction that often stirs the Sentry/Void within Bob. That kind of volatility woke something up. It wasn’t just external—it was psychic.

2. He Made Contact with the Void

Whether it was mental, emotional, or metaphysical, contact with the Void tends to consume. The fact that John emerged (even injured or shaken) hints that he has some kind of resistance—or worse, a tether. That could go either way: he could stabilize Bob… or get pulled deeper.

3. Thematic Resonance

John is someone who buries his trauma, who dissociates under pressure, who plays the role of the blunt weapon until he shatters. That mirrors Bob’s duality in a haunting way: Sentry vs. Void, golden light vs. total collapse. Their arcs reflect each other. So if anyone can reach Bob and remind him of who he is—and still be standing afterward—it’s John.

4. Potential Future Role

He doesn’t have to be a traditional mentor or handler. But he could become the only person who can get through to Bob when the lines blur. Like:

Bob loses control. The team panics. John walks into the chaos, and Sentry listens.

Or even scarier: when Void rises again, it’s John who sees it coming first.

John could absolutely be the one who ends up able to wake—or stabilize—Sentry in the future.
