On Mangastream’s Translations

i’ve been seeing the same post pointing out errors in the mangastream’s scanlation of Hunter x hunter 361, and i wanted to make my own post about the issue.

last year, mangastream had a note posted to their blog regarding the accuracy of their translations. the poster noted that Hunter x Hunter usually takes longer to translate than most of their other series; each chapter is extremely text-heavy, but often also worded very ambiguously, with complex grammar and vocabulary (i’ve seen enough people analyzing one certain scene in particular to believe this wholeheartedly). in order to release each new chapter as fast as possible, some accuracy is lost in the initial translation.

however, the series is a favorite of many translators on the site, so usually several of them work on each chapter over the course of the following week. they try to have the updated version of the chapter out by the next thursday, and they highly recommend rereading the previous chapter for a better translation before moving on to the new one.

(this post was on their website last year, and i’m paraphrasing heavily from it, but i assume the policy still holds true for these new translations.)
