what society needs to understand is that friendship and romance are not ranks, tiers, or levels. they are not above or below each other. romance is not a promotion. friendship is not a demotion. romance is not “more than” being friends with someone. friendship and romance are concepts that exist on equal terms, side by side. sometimes they happen to coincide. other times they never intersect at all. how relationships are classified is up to the individuals involved but like?? neither is inherently more or less valuable is the thing

It’s almost as if Hugh Hefner was projecting a force-field that protected creepy famous men, and with his death they were suddenly exposed.

YA novel: this guy was the most badass guy you’ve ever seen. he could kick anybody’s ass. he was the leader of his own gang of misfits that nobody dared cross. he wore a lot of leather. he had a scar somewhere that looked really cool. he had this super deep sexy raspy voice no one could resist. he stood at a towering height of 6ft5 and was built af. everybody feared him.
me: alright
YA novel: and he was 16 years old
me: excuse me

I just want to live in a little stone cottage in the mountains that’s so overtaken with plants that it’s unrecognizable as a house until you get close to it and have a small little flock of sheep and some ducks and a couple of giant dogs to keep me warm and I’ll make natural medicinal remedies that I’ll take to town every so often with my big dogs following me so people are intimidated but also oddly comforted and eventually I’ll just become a local cryptid

Give me Gods of tobacco and thunder, of black smoke and leather. Gods that smell like rain but taste like whiskey. Gods of dark skies, cold nights and warm firelight. Gods of charred bones and wet soil and the sound of antlers colliding. Gods of hooves and thorns. Gods of pine forests and wild dogs. Sharp claws, all teeth, no apologies. Gods of anything that frightens you and everything that comforts you.
Give them blood and flesh and they will give you a smile and a favour. If they want to.

Detail shots of my “Welcome to Inlé” sculpture, completed early July, 2014.
I realize I mentioned writing more about the piece when I posted these, but now I can’t for the life of me remember what it was I wanted to say.
Watership Down was one of the first novels I read as a child, probably at 10 or 12. I saw the animated film soon after, and it’s clear to me that both the book and the movie made an indelible impression on me. I reread the book every two or three years, and it hasn’t lost any of its power or impact. Most of all, I’m enthralled by the rich stories the rabbits share with one another throughout the novel. My love for mythology was certainly encouraged by reading WSD as a child.
Thanks for the wonderful response to this piece so far, you amazing folks!
Materials and dimensions and all that other good stuff can be found on the turnaround photoset that’s posted on my Tumblr, right below this post.

Shout out to my friends who don’t have perfect skin. Inflamed skin disorders, acne, eczema, psoriasis, excoriation disorder, rosacea, pigmentation disorders, scarring, and the whole lot. I see you– we don’t get enough love, but I see you and you are beautiful.
