smh i’ve been neglecting tumblr for like a month

heya! how is ur dynamic for the kris/lyra's relationship? u mentioned kris in the tags of ur ss post and i got curious!

this has been in my inbox for like over a week?? what the hell have i been doingANYWAY it’s. kind of messy anon. or rather, it was for lyra. once upon a time, lyra through kris was the coolest kid in new bark and desperately wanted to be friends with her. but kris was just annoyed by her, and over time became more hostile and dismissive of her, which in turn lead to lyra become more and more aggressive towards her. she was glad when kris convinced her parents that going on a journey would provide her with some great life experience, if she ever had to deal with kris quartz again it would be too soon.

but when kris went missing under mysterious circumstances halfway through her journey, lyra was strangely upset by it. she was hoping she’d meet back up with kris and kick her ass once she’d become a trainer herself. she was worried by the circumstances kris disappeared under—she worried she’d been kidnapped or spirited away. she searched for any sign of kris when she reached ercuteak & the ruins of alph, the last places she’s been spotted. she desperately, privately, wished that kris was safe, wherever she’d ended up.

kris’ view of lyra is pretty simple; she found lyra annoying even before her parents divorced and she started getting more an more touchy. kris was born to a rich entrepreneur father and a ex-master trainer come actress mother and she was. kind of a snobby kid. her parents expected a lot of her—she was the family heir and she had to be prepared to take over her fathers business when she was old enough—and she learnt from an early age she could look down on and be rude to other kids as long as she kept on the adults good sides. 

lyra was someone she was particularly rude to, mostly because of her poor focus in class and tendency to be loud and overly emotional. she was the opposite of what kris had been brought up to be and she was equally frustrated by and jealous of lyra’s ability to just be herself, regardless of how the people around her acted. they spent a lot of time in eachothers presence because they both liked to play football with the other kids in new bark and also helped at professor elm’s lab and the longer they spent together the more adamant kris became that she hated lyra. she barely though of her when she first set out on her journey, never expected to see her again. 

but more recently, kris began to think of lyra again. reconsider how she treated her. given her current circumstances, there’s only a slim chance they’ll ever see eachother again, but if by some miracle they did, kris thinks she’d like to see if they could start over. this time as friends rather than enemies.

do you ever just become an absolute disaster

have y’all ever shipped something very popular but with a very different dynamic then is commonly seen in fanon. and by that i mean: when will somebody finally ship deconstructed soulsilvershipping with me.   

i’m not a fan of the almost decade old ‘ lyra changes and saves silver because she’s so pure and sweet!! ’ dynamic because i feel it involves some less than savoury tropes. but since lyra k. kuno has buried all her cinnabun energy behind a 3 meter thick wall of conceitedness and 90s slang i see her and silver as complimentary characters as well as being one anothers foils when it comes to how they initially see pokemon.

so the narative becomes less of a tired manic pixie dream girl saves moody asshole boy and more two troubled children who share some of each others worldview but primarily approach the world in opposite ways. they both feel threatened by the world and want to project power, but silver initially does so by rejecting others whilst lyra tries to draw them closer by being a charming and hyper-competent, tries to convince them to buy into her self image.

so when silver starts to work on himself, to reconsider what he’s doing and starts to act more compassionately towards his pokemon, lyra takes that as an absolute victory—thinks that she was the sole reason he changed. thinks that silver’s finally accepted that her way of doing things was the best and now almost sees herself as a teacher, a step above him in rank and that obviously wreaks havoc on the tentative ceasefire-come-friendship-come-weird-crush that’s developing. 

and just as lyra inspired silver to reevaluate himself and his methods as a trainer, silver growing increasingly distant as lyra makes half-jokes about her being the one to show him the light makes her reconsider how she’s presenting herself to the world. makes her realise that maybe it’s not her skill or her assertion of it that draws people to her but instead the kindness, the goodness in her that she lets show when she’s dealing with her pokemon and the few people she’d consider best friends.
