Upon closer inspection, Pratchett apparently had a good racism track record after interesting times. Which is again set in a fictional country meant specifically to evoke the entirety of Asia all at once. That idea on its face sounds like it would be almost impossible to do without committing some amount of severe cultural insensitivity let's call it
#then there's the joke about dog meat which isn't great#I'm captivated by the story but i am apprehensive how these stereotypes which he tends to invert are going to play out#story hasnt revealed everything yet and am not very well versed in chinese history but i have been wary of the social structure stuff

Am I stupid or is it a lot more work to make cgi look like stop motion than to just do stop motion

I had heard that Pratchett was pretty good about racism but they sure are eating dog in the amalgam Asian continent
#that's. disappointing.#is that a factor of the time it was written or just british#there was some stuff that felt off but seemed arguable

Like I guess it's not a surprise since that's the posture all the injuring happened in. But it is still very stupid that the pose I am most comfortable in and can kind of hang out in indefinitely is like a full squat.
#i am finding this makes chairs and beds what i would classify as a challenge#shit maybe i should just make myself some kind of all terrain scooty stool#even if im not committing to floor time fulltime that would still probably be a useful thing to have#probably just like. 4 bigass wheels attached to a padded disk. i could do that in like a couple hours. i could even upholster it nice#because fuck it if im making furniture i might as well make furniture#and it can get some dumb nickname containing 'scooty' somehow or another#for fucks sake it feels like my body is wrapped in duct tape stuck in this pose#and deviating from this posture means fighting an apparently unprecedented amount of collagen#so everything is exhausting#literally everything

I wonder if any of the henson people ever had the idea to aid with heavy characters by strapping a crutch under their arm with a belt. Lightweight, quick and easy to make, moves with the performer, and would be able to assist with weight or longevity.
#i suspect putting pressure on that part of your arm like that might not be the best for your nerves and stuff#but i imagine the model shop could whip up some padded arm cups and attach them in like 15 minutes#like if youre so concerned about ergonomics you can put a shock absorber in there too why not

Like, my movement is restricted but I am still confoundingly strong for how wiry I look. I imagine if I wasn't I wouldn't be able to move at all. I have this feeling that if I manage to get any large portion of my restrictions released all at once, I am immediately going to move like goddamn mr bean
"Oh fuck it used to take so much more force to move my shoulder my arm has overshot and I've swept an entire shelf to the floor"
"Oh fuck the muscle memory I have for walking is suddenly incompatible with the equipment I have I am realtime learning to walk like some floppy newborn ungulate"
"oh fuck shoulder again I have pulled the door off the refrigerator" and so on
#'Is this you?' *'before' footage plays*#'record scratch you may be wondering how i got here'#some data star trek quote

Can I claim disney is silencing me if this pinched nerve is making the muscles in my throat dampen my larynx
#people keep telling me im barely speaking audibly and i guess bone conduction makes me sound much louder to myself?#oh that might solve that i guess#the muscles from collar bone to ear/skull cross right over that whole situation#intuition is telling me stiffer muscle conducts sound more effectively than supple alive muscle#because thats sort of how sound works#seems entirely likely that the lawyer will be able to get some shut up money out of disney at least. he can mash go on that whenever#sooner is better than later the state disability system appears to be failing me and social security disability shit takes 2 years#and i am not exactly able to profit off of any of the limited things i am capable of doing#unless i like. join someone else's podcast or some shit#can't imagine that work pays at all#craig ferguson had that robot skeleton maybe i can talk some entertainer into having some kind of annoying animal sidekick to fill dead air

From what I understand Pratchett has a pretty good track record of not being racist but I am still finding myself apprehensive when he starts dealing with thinly veiled discworld equivalents of real countries and culture
#its not that you can't do that#it's that its very easy for it to be kind of a minefield if you arent careful#like they dont say its india or china but its clearly intentionally flavored like them to make the connection in your mind#that said if you are extremely british that is also going to raise a red flag so its doubling up here#i dont remember anything so far thats stood out as dubious#save for one time he used a real life slur in what i think was a joke about nonsense syllables#like the punchline being that it isnt a loaded word to the characters. not like. it being used#like nuance and context matter but that being in there at all was a surprise

I appreciate how thoroughly thought out and unique the discworld is as it's own unique world, while still being peppered with stuff like "by some unfathomable narrative contrivance this figure is immediately recognizable to the reader as santa claus except with tusks. but stay with me folks I'm doing something with this"
#its like its informed by the ways people are and the real world while being its own thing#except sometimes he'll just go 'look this is a story about christmas and santa. theyre not exactly the same as your santa.#but he dresses the same and does all the same stuff and came about for similar reasons#a lot is done to explain how this santa happened and how coincidentally all the trappings we would recognize came from in universe#but it's also a lot of work to justify putting santa on the discworld and theres something beautifully silly about that#then all the threads come together and you understand what the story was made to do#these are good stories

Brain: all I have to do is learn gearing ratios and I might actually be able to just build a clock
Me: do you listen to yourself
#if i pull that off i think I'll have proved i can just go figure out how to do shit#like im more interested in seeing if i can do it and recognizing what i need to understand to be capable of that#than i am in proving i am capable of kind of just figuring out how complex shit functions seemingly out of nowhere#i guess mostly its something that i personally see as being impressive to achieve#like i don't expect it to keep good time but functioning escapement on its own is an interesting kinetic thing as it is#if i can figure out how to do a cuckoo clock except with a whoopee cushion instead of the bird sound pipes that feels about right#that may qualify as art if you read any Intent out of it

Have they tried to reboot Gilligan's Island yet
#or is that in a similar captain planet pile#i think you might be able to pull it off if you just dont call it that and you do like the cartoon where you strand them in space#probably update the archetypes that sounds like a thing a studio would tell you to do#or just go full camp with it and lean into the weird 60s tv show stuff#are we at the point where it doesnt matter if its something people want to buy yet

Do the people actually consuming their cherished long running properties lately notice them feeling more like fan films/fiction. Would they consider that a positive or negative thing.
#am i jaded by gestures vaguely or are ip owners weilding fandoms like some kind of symbiotic cult#since I'm already in that neighborhood

I'm teaching myself some kind of nerve/muscle release technique that I am also kind of inventing by trial and error. If I can get my hands and arms unfrozen I should be good. I'm going to be some kind of living tissue technician. And the only way anyone could believe me is if I put my hands on them and immediately fix their shit enough times that putting my money where my mouth is outweighs not having any medical training. I will unlock chakras neither of us knew you had.
#i am learning this shit backwards like i always do#I'm looking at all this anatomy like its a repair manual for a vcr or some electromechanical whatever#everything is wired up more or less intuitively and everything has names and functions#except it's like if you opened up the vcr shell there was just goddamn wire spaghetti in there#and meat. i guess#the metaphor isnt perfect
