Welp I will never get over the first Season of Murderbot. The additions they added to the season were absolutely spectacular! And oh my god the narrative beat that they added for Gurathin and Sec! It was such a wonderful coda to their evolving understanding of one another throughout the season!

I am going to be spinning this around in my head for weeks! Seriously. A rare show that absolutely captures and adds to an already delightful series! What a work of love by all involved!!

You have no idea how disappointed I am that there are no ghost stories involving Sarah Good terrorizing Puritans in the woods. She was one of the first 3 women accused of witchcraft in the Salem witch trials and if you haven’t heard her story it is incredible. This woman managed to escape her jailers and spent a cold night alone barefoot in the woods with her infant but because she was a poor beggar with no support or resources she was forced to return to her captors. Her infant later died in prison, her four year old daughter was later accused as well and jailed for months, and Sarah herself was later found guilty and hung.

If anyone had a reason to come back and torment some pricks, it was definitely this woman! However there doesn’t seem to be any stories of her doing so. Hopefully her soul found peace and couldn’t be bothered with the living world but I can still daydream of her getting an opportunity to scare the pants off of the same people who brought her so much misery.

Just being a white girl who was into sci-fi and anime in the early and mid 2000’s was enough to experience plenty of said gatekeeping. Which really sucked because before I had ready access to the internet I couldn’t find a community that didn’t make me try to pass some stupid litmus test to prove that I was an “actual fan.” The pressure to know facts about the “right kinds” of sci-fi and anime and the amount of crap I’d get for admitting to liking something that was arbitrarily described as “derivative or too mainstream” makes it hard for my to be open with my interests in public to this day. I am so happy that nerdy things are breaking into popular culture and that people growing up after me might stand a chance of being able to find communities that allow them to talk about their favorite series without some stupid mouthbreathing troll screeching about how they don’t deserve to be there.

You are allowed to like the things you like (so long as no one is being harmed or endangered.) You shouldn’t have to explain why you like it or possess a virtual PhD in the thing to like it unless you want to!

Also to those who willingly disrupt those toxic spaces and force misogynistic racists to feel uncomfortable please know that I recognize the effort that takes. You’re doing the lord’s work.

my fave greek history story to tell is that of agnodice. like she noticed that women were dying a lot during childbirth so she went to egypt to study medicine in alexandria and was really fucking good but b/c it was illegal for women to be doctors in athens she had to pretend to be a man. and then the other doctors noticed that she was 10x better than them and accused her of seducing and sleeping with the women patients. like they brought her to court for this. and she just looked at them and these charges and stripped in front of everyone like “yeah. im not fucking your wives” and then they got so mad that a woman was better at their jobs then them that they tried to execute her but all her patients came to court and were like “are you fucking serious? she is the reason you have living children and a wife.” so they were shamed into changing the law and that is how women were given the right to practice medicine in athens
