On my birthday a friend took me to visit this Banyan tree inside an art museum. For some the Banyan is a sacred tree, considered to be a home, for people and for spirits. Krishna is said to have rested on the Banyan leaf and Banyan trees can live to be more than 400 years old. For me, as I look up to the tree, it reminds me how there’s still so much more to learn on Earth and in the Universe. I hope we can all learn a little bit more this new year and spend time understanding together. It’s my birthday wish and what I hope to do 😊Suur aitäh kõigile!! Obrigado a todos! Thank you!!

In Taiwan people like to gather on the East Coast to view the first Sunrise of the year. One of the magical places is Sanxiantai where we welcomed the new year with a beach cleanup. I hope this decade is the turning point where we can stop destroying our planet, improve the design and quality of our products to remove the useless polluting side-effects. Happy New Year! Let's do it Taiwan 來此淨國際志工團 🤗🤗 (at Sanxiantai) https://www.instagram.com/p/B65wdW6pPMO/?igshid=wcy4oka4atm9

Happy holidays!🎄⛄️ Christmas is a great time to think about food😋 So today our team Food Zebra 🦓prototyped a healthy eating 🥕 solution for the university campus. Our idea is selling soup in a portable, edible container. It’s quite fast! You can order in the app and pick it up riding a bicycle. But what do you think? Do you like soup? Or would you like to eat something else that’s healthy? What did you eat today? PS: I already have a wish for 2020! Let’s eat more healthy yummy food together! 😍😜 #NCKU #Taiwan #HealthyFood (at 國立成功大學 National Cheng Kung University) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6gEuk_JTo9/?igshid=1jplpd17qzsul

I really liked drawing back in the day — at age 5 — when I was still in kindergarten. Until one day, in a thrust of stupidity and stubbornness, I just stopped drawing! My mom still remembers that day and it’s probably one of the biggest, most dramatic mistakes I’ve made in my life… So you can imagine the tingle of excitement and with the feeling of dread mixing in my stomach when our American professor John Gravdahl said: “This weekend is going to be all about drawing!” My track was focused on turning Taiwanese folk tales into posters and as I started on my drawings, it wasn’t so terrifying after all. Some ideas from exploring storytelling at film school came flooding back to me and my fears subsided. It wasn’t least thanks to the group of fantastically talented and hard-working design students surrounding me, everybody focused on their work but very friendly, humble and supportive. And in the end, that day was sooooo much fun! (As facing one’s fears and self-prescribed limitations often is!) After all, scientists are now publishing research proving that drawing is one of the best ways to learn anything — so why continue being stupid. Let me (and us all) rather use all the tools we have at our disposal to think better! This workshop is already in its 7th year and the students came from 37 universities, including industrial-, graphic-, fashion-, and other types of design disciplines, joining the design hackathon. Starting with a conference on Friday, we focused on “building stuff” on Saturday and Sunday, mentored by several renowned designers from Korea, Japan, USA, Thailand, and Hong Kong there to help our teams focus on their storytelling, beauty rooted in cultural relevance and not least, innovation. It was intense but during lunch-time our team made a run for an exhibition of Camille Claudel’s sculptures and an immersive projection based on Edgar Degas’s “Little Dancer” at the triangular “Asia Modern” museum designed by Tadao Ando, located on campus, serving as a perfect inspiration for students at any creative department. The key ethos and justification for the event was “Design leadership”. In essence.. 30 years since the fall of the Berlin wall. Throwback to earlier this year at the Wall and to many years ago when I was first able to travel to Germany as a kid thanks to Estonian independence in 1991, which meant Estonians could again travel freely, breathe unrestrained, and build their lives in liberty after 50 years of Soviet colonization. The fall of Communism has afforded me many opportunities and freedoms which previous generations weren’t lucky enough to have enjoyed — and I’m very grateful to make the most of it. So as Jolly Kunjappu wrote on the wall, it’s also important for me to say: “yes to freedown, peace, dignity and respect for all” — and “NO to terror and repression towards all living beings,” may we never forget that. Freedom is precious 🤲🤲 (at Taiwan) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4pK7tbpcDW/?igshid=141xix9w0tdq5

Beautiful Diwali celebrations last week with great people, delicious food and lots of fun. Unfortunately, the same event creates large amounts of air pollution and waste. For example, the sparklers that look so pretty create tiny PM 2.5 particles that get into our blood-stream. So how can we have this fun without pollution? Today’s takeaway. LEGOs for playing and green spaces for relaxation can boost student well-being. Even during stressful exam periods. I was feeling a little bit nervous today about writing on a topic I’m completely ignorant about (South-East Asian History) but taking an open class in the morning to play with LEGOs kept me relaxed, happy and focused on the goal, learning more.
