The frustrating thing is, “soft” science fiction then proceeds to hand-wave how the spaceships work with bogus science anyways, and it becomes clear that their wizards just wear white coats. I prefer to be honest with the reader and just say a dragon wizard did it. And that way the story has dragon wizards too now instead of something or other beams or drives.
The line between fantasy and sci-fi is a highly frayed shoelace that’s been cut into multiple pieces and randomly tossed over someone’s shoulder tbh
