Inktober Day 24: Extinct

It's extremely easy to screw up the robo-revolution in this game, so it seemed fitting for today's theme.

This picture doesn't seem to line up with any specific in-game scene, so I suspect from an advertising standpoint that its goal was to be as cool, cyberpunk-ish, and Blade-Runner-y as possible. They succeeded! It looks fantastic, and it's part of why I bought the game.

As someone who wants to find an in-universe space for it to fit into, I like to think that this is an interrogation being led by D-0704. We know 04 has been around longer than 27, and that at some point in the past interrogations were once led face-to-face. Maybe 04 was around for this time, and maybe the person at right is what D-0704 looks like.

The android at left is blonde and restrained, so she reminds me vaguely of A.L.Ex. I'm less set on the idea of her being any particular android, though, since I figure 04 has probably interrogated lots of androids at this point, and many of them could have been equally blond.

The upper left image is all we ever get in the way of visuals for our protagonist. They're blacked out, and the only pronouns 27 ever gets are they/them. It strikes me as a deliberate move to leave the character as easy as possible to project onto; the player can imagine their own appearances, voice, and mannerisms at any point.

As an artist, I'm hungry for some recognizable 'canon' face to work from. Any face would be valid, given the designers' deliberate lack of specification (and the fact that I suspect more than one face is used for interrogators); still, for my 27 I've noticed that the original profile picture looks like it's a modified version of pre-surgery-Shakira. The glimpse we see of our own uniform while we're being interrogated seems to match with this!

A.L.Ex Compared to Eva Blanchland

I like the idea that Alex was based on Blanchland's appearance. Alex was originally made by a university in partnership with Kronos; maybe that was one of the results of that partnership? Hell, maybe even back then, Eva was a part of that project from the university side, as a student or professor.
