Tech Play 4
Option 2: Content Objects I teach cosmetology to a group of high school future hairstylist and the primary purpose of the Cosmetology Course is to train the student in their profession. The object is that all students clock 1500 hours. Then education is provided through a sequential set of learning steps which address specific tasks necessary for state board preparation both written and practical, graduation and job entry- level skills. Therefore, the student will perform both the basic manipulative and analytical skills in the areas of hair care, skin care, and nail care to achieve the best total look for each client. As the classroom student salon equipment, implements, and products are comparable to those used in the industry.
Objective Content VS information literacy
I selected Content Objects due to the fact if I want to be effective I must stay relevant with fades and styles as they evolve through time. Being that trend setting teacher that integrates the subjects I presented by means of interactive lecture, demonstration, and student participation. Collaboration of audio-visual aids, guest speakers, field trips, projects, activities, and other related learning methods are incorporated throughout the course of study to maintain efficacy. Therefore, “information literacy is a crucial skill in the pursuit of knowledge in my course. It involves recognizing when information is needed and being able to efficiently locate, accurately evaluate, effectively use, and clearly communicate information in various formats. It refers to the ability to navigate the rapidly growing information environment, which encompasses an increasing number of information suppliers as well as the amount supplied, and includes bodies of professional literature, popular media, libraries, the Internet, and much more (Wesleyan University)”. Which mains I am always on a quest for new technology to enhance the textbook we have and say relevant as the industry evolve.
Describe the objects or tools you explored and their functions.
The tools that I like the most are Edpuzzle, Quizlet Live, Kahoot, and Eportfolio because I can input my own information the way I want. They are not like the other sites such as other that are offered to the core subjects (math reading, and etc.) because the site are already setup for them leaving no room for alterations. Every site I choose is to cover every aspect of their career, can be accessed from any device, compatible to any YouTube, picture formatting, social media and other learning sites. Most of all with these site with the exceptions of Kahoot, they have a component that allows the leaner to extend from the classroom to wherever the learner resides. Edpuzzle: is a site where you can load videos and power point slide from anywhere (YouTube, Khan Academy, social media Prezi etc.). Then I can go into the system and add my voice to power point slide and add questions (multiple choice, true false, and fill in the blank) throughout the video where the reinforcement is need. Which, enable self-paced learning with interactive lessons for the learner. Therefore, students are easily engage, reinforce accountability, know if your students are watching your videos, how many times and see the answers they giving.
Quizlet /Quizlet Live: is an online learning tool that offers tools for students to make flashcards, practice spelling, play learning games, test their knowledge, and collaborate with other students. However, Quizlet Live tool the teacher can create a classroom set, collaborate with other teachers, and give the students materials to help them learn in a more fun and more efficient way. Quizlet Live was designed to bring fresh energy into the classroom and it simple for students and teachers to create and share online learning materials
Kahoot: is where I create and design my own learning game, and all they have to do is enter there pin number to join. Kahoot would be my daily classroom review question, procedures, picture, videos, discussions and vocabulary drills. That the student can play as a group or individually on any device.
Eportfolio: the student can do projects in a virtual classroom or Blackboard and create their life time portfolio that they could continue to build onto as they grow in the industry. Whither if the portfolio is used to become gainful employed, get independent contracts, and potential new clients because the student can add this link to any social media or website page.
Liked or disliked about each of the objects/tools you explored.
Every site I choose is to cover every aspect of their career, can be accessed from any device, compatible to any YouTube, picture formatting, social media and other learning sites. The sites automatically create links that can send in any fashion or added to and site. I like them all them because they can used for reinforcement, prepare for the practical and written state-board exam, and help them after graduation. The one I can say I like the least is Kahoot it’s only for classroom use the learning is not continuous.
Your own personal learning preferences or because of what your students’ preferences might be. I choose each site with both the learner and myself in mind. One I needed it to be accessible on any school servers because some have certain sites and social media block by fire walls which, stops me and the student form using the site. Second it need to be user friendly, compatible to all social media the learners are into, on in any device, and learning can be extended from the classroom. Most of all the sites are relevant to what relates to the performance of useful, creative, and productive career oriented activities because they are create based on the relevance of the material present at that time.
Explored to continue to reflect on. It’s hard to choose one because I teach both parts of the course practical which is theory the written. Then the hands-on the actual hair and customer care. Which they will be tested on by the State-board of Texas to get their licenses in order to practice hair. I would choose Edpuzzle for my practical and Quizzlet for the written. Therefore, I will expound on Quizzlet since the learners have the most trouble out of the written.
TPACK model, analyze
Quizzlet will fit in the TPACK model. Quizzlet will allow me to set short and long term goals, for the learners cover the objectives that all student will receive instruction that relates to the performance of useful, creative, and productive career oriented activities. Quizzlet is good for pedagogical knowledge of the students different learning style while creating a learning environment, and assessment of the learner. The content is what I am going to teach through the Quizzlet which, is the technology piece. Example: I would assign all my student to get a free Quizzlet account. I would ensure that all the learners send me their link then, I would post the list on Blackboard so, all students would have access at any time to play their peers flashcards. Then the short term goal would be for every chapter they would have to make flashcards especially on or areas of testing. This would be used as drills for Vocabulary, Review Question, Procedures, & The Did You Facts About Cosmetology. Next the objective is to take the textbook digital since it has the capability to read to them, what they wrote. As a result the learners would are SPED, EL, or RTI Tier 2& 3 Levels or just need the extra practice will have that access at their leisure. My catch 20/20 to my madness is that every student has transferred the information from the text to the technology tool. Then this means, they have read or at least looked over the chapter. Therefore they have some form of knowledge during the interactive lectures. In order to fully understand, knowing their peers will see it and if I select theirs to show too the class to drill them on in the mornings as a review. Therefore, the pedagogical knowledge of each kinesthetic characteristics are touched by the learning and input of the information form the book. Verbal is when I give the instructions for the assignment, visual by the seeing of the game played on the screen, auditory the listening to the audio of the reading of the Flashcards, and Kinesthetic, learner my hand-on students are my typist and game players. After that technology is integrated in to the curriculum through Quizzlet ensuring not to let the content and technology teach the class, allowing the pedagogy which is all three component. Most of all the classroom is wherever they are, so learning is continuous.
Other objects/tools I selected could /not could accomplish the same objectives
The other objects/tools I selected could not accomplish the same objectives. Because I still want to use the directive methods with student assignments by giving students more freedom within the given parameters. It will make them more proactive in their learning and it will make them stride harder because their work will deserve to been seen. Kahoot is good for the teacher however, the student does not have a hand in their learning. Kahoot is only during class for drills, reinforcement and morning energizers to get the class started. Which causes the learning to stop at school and I want my learners to have continuous learning even when I am not physically present.

Tech Play 3 - Creativity Tools
I explored various creative technology tools and there where a few I liked a lot. While keeping in mind the TPACK model consist of Pedagogy: the why and how they learn best, Content: the information and Technology: is what or how the affordance is suggested therefore, we need all three in our lesson planning. Ensuring not give up the pedagogy to the designers of the software or coders. Maintaining the pedagogy and technology together. Therefore I select Prezi, Animoto, Windows Live Movie Maker, and Quizlet /Quizlet Live which they could all be integrated with each other and to work as one. I like them because I found them to be user friendly you could import previous Power Point slides to a few of them, text-to–voice and upload picture and videos. The technologies I choose could be built off of prior knowledge of a students who had any experience with either technology. Most of all the student can create and share on the web, mobile, or tablet, using YouTube, Personal Videos, Flip gram and all social media sites.
Various Tools Explored and Like
Prezi: is a web-based program that allows you to create more of a canvas presentation instead of a sequential slide presentation such as Power Point. It allows you to incorporate not only text and pictures, but videos and other presentation objects. It allows you to make 3D slides and zoom your words in and out and import previous Power Point Slides. You can create your presentation online and then download the final product so that you don’t require an internet connection to display the presentation.
Animoto: is your own customize text size, color, font, and placement on video clips, photos, collage blocks, or titles. Showcase several images at once with collage blocks or use a split screen to share videos or photos alongside text. Then choose any style & song from this massive music library jam-packed with all the latest music and they are all pre-licensed for use. Hosted in the Cloud therefore, you can post and share your videos wherever.
Windows Live Movie Maker: is the quick way to turn Power Point slide, photos, videos voice overs, and editing ability into great-looking movies that are easy to share, for free. Windows Live Movie Maker that allows you to easily turn photos and videos into great-looking movies to share with their peers, teachers and family across a TV, PC or mobile device using the most popular camera types and file formats (JPEG, and MPEG-4 video )formats on the market today.
Quizlet Live was designed to bring fresh energy into the classroom and it simple for students and teachers to create and share online learning materials.
Quizlet /Quizlet Live content goals/objectives, pedagogical approach (es), and technological affordances
Quizlet Live will fit into the TPACK model. I would use it as a daily as bell ringer or a morning energizer to get the class prep for the lesson as a prerequisite to what we have discuss in the chapters. It will also be used as a tool to introduce or reinforce the vocabulary or steps to remember in a procedure. The Quizlet Live tool will be able to show on a screen or projector, upon arrival they will input the code using their individual smart device, tablet or computer play. Then once every student is in the game will begin either as an individual or team. However good thing is it stops the second guessing, no student can lag, because it is timed, if they don’t answer at the end of the session you can request a survey/ consensus of who answered and what questions was missed the most and can be use it as a test review. Which will help me to see what I need to cover or reintegrate.
Benefits for the Student
The creative tool have a Quizlet that the student can open their own account collaborate with other students and create their own flashcards, which will turn in to practice spelling, and play learning games to test their knowledge. Therefore, they can review the flashcards prior to the lesson and they can make their flashcards public to their friends where they can use each other to test each other own. I can even select students to let me convert their flashcards to my Quizlet Live and allow the students to play theirs as a review during class. Motivating them to put in the work so their game can be played, by their classmates.
Use Creativity Tools/ What do They Offer That Other Don’t
Quizlet is a valuable tool since it can help my non-readers because it has the capabilities to read to them the flash cards they created. Therefore they can transfer the textbook information into digital script and now it converts text to voice. Allowing them to play the game repeatedly at home at their own pace. Once the flashcards are created the system have serval components were they could be turn in to question such as: multiple choice, true false, fill in the blank, and matching. Which will help them as have a better understanding of the content, then be able to follow along as it is reading. next it should help with the reading on their own, then help them pass their state board test. Therefore it will increase retention, class participation, and motivation and empowering the student to learn and build their confidence and esteem.

Your Tech Play 2 assignment is to: ePortfolio
Electronic or digital tools Verse physical (non-digital) portfolios
As I explored the electronic or digital tools compare and how they differ from physical (non-digital) portfolios. Digital portfolios are convenient, versatile, and extremely accessible in terms of the delivery of materials to potential clients and employers. Digital work is what’s widely accepted of presentation of professional work for most creative people in any industry and those in other media, advertising, and marketing. However, paper or hardcopy portfolios are usually in the minority in the employment market. The choice, however, isn't always simple. Both forms of portfolio have strong points in terms of presentation, and that can make the difference between getting a job or not. In some industries, quality of presentation is a true deal breaker, and it's fair to say that hardcopy is often neglected. Therefore, we have both on hand so they can follow alone with your digital presentation, some may even need to revisit later, and beside we must evolve with time and become invaders of the future.

Identify Affordances and Your Best Choice
As I explored the countless portfolio sites that were meant for educators you either have to pay or they have a 30day free trial but all the feature you could use was limited. Therefore you cannot get the full effect off the site and the tools and gadgets it offered. My top 4 sites were Wix, Google site/ Wikispaces, PortfolioGen, & Pathbrite.
Wix is a great for building a website or pages that can be used as an eportfolio site that has countless templates to help design your page. These countless designs are free, cable of being edited, and the templates indicate there range from easy to hard to manipulate the page. You can promote your business showcase your work, test and sale online products or services. Most of all you can create and display your personality on a professional website.
Google sites are very excellent for numerous of reasons. It offers the eportfolio templates, google classroom where you can setup up a classroom for your students. It also was sort of limited to how you can export and import material. I know for sure you upload from: YouTube videos, google docs, and Facebook with no problems. This cost for the basic site was $10 a month to use and create an eportfolio account. However, you cannot use you regular Gmail account. You have to pay for a new email address which was $12 a year, not much at all ($1 a month). This would give you a google admin email account, then you would be able to get access to Google to create an eportfolios. Wikispaces were similar to Google as well in my opinion.
PortfolioGen is a super way to go if you were looking for a job. Its free, it offers cover letter templates, letter builders, example and samples. It also has 18 pages that is prename and tailored in the portfolio section such as: pictures, videos, awards you have won, achievements, journals or post, pass employment history, and etc. just click and add as many as you need. It gives you access to employers that are using search engines like this to find employees. Although, if an employer that you are interested in is not using this site no worries you can send your link to them via email and they could access it too, because you have your own URL address. In my case since I do teach a career course this would be defiantly the end results when we are in the final phrase of school which is 100 hundred hours from completion of the course and we are in chapters 30-32 which is all about preparing for your interviews, how to dress what to take and so on. Pathbrite is the one I chose it has a collaboration of Wikispace, Google Site, Wix, and PortolioGen. I can invite students, create courses, it’s even similar to Blackboard and it is free. From a teachers stand point of view, you can track your learners growth by displaying their past challenges and successes, making their growth more visible for them to see and show their parents. Which would lead to faster learning and mastery of a course. The use of the portfolios is to help increase students reflect on what they are learning. It has the option for RTI teaching due to the collaboration of the faculty, teachers, administrators and staff can all help make sense of student productivity across a single courses or a full curriculum. It allows them to showcase their on any device such as: cell phone, tablet, or any other common display. Using Pathbrite I can engage the students earlier and more often for better career placement giving them clear advantage over others, “students get polished portfolios they can use during internships or career searches as a result” (Pathbrite). All of this will lead to better career placement rates after graduation.
Consider context. Choice of Tool for Students to Create an ePortfolio, Why and Affordances?
I would not make any change in the tool I chose for myself because, I had the students in mind. Nevertheless I need something I could possible monitor the student on. Since we know the Generation Z students are very tech savvy and can find a way to exploit the use of the tool. However, to get the opportunity to showcase their work on any device such as: their phone, tablet, or any other common display could deter them for begin mischievous. Hoping to tap into their creative mind, building their sense of taking pride in their work. Especially if they knew their audience is more than just their peers but, potential employers, and that their work would be displayed and remembered. While effectively opening thought minds critical thinking skills through, increased reading, writing, math, terminology, problem solving abilities and reflection. Which, would be expresses their skills, passions, and mastery of their craft. This could open doors to talents or areas students did not know they possess like: editing skill, design, photography, graphics, communication, networking all while enhancing other aspects in the business. Most of all it is a time saver instead of my students going to another to site or keeping up with a piece of paper for an assignment. I can create a courses where the learner can login, see assignments, summit course work, upload, from anywhere, create slide shows, and use drag-and-drop tools. Once the student create their account it is theirs for a life time. Therefore, at the end of your program, students get polished portfolios they can use during internships, career searches and I can also invite chain salon and salon owners as will to view their portfolio. All of this will lead to better career placement rates after graduation.
Conclusion What I discovered / learned was this site like many others are allowing the affordances, collaboration, or integration of multiple tools to be used to teach and build a learner though curriculum and technology all while keeping the learner engaged. It just requires research time creativity and thinking out the box. With this one site I chose Pathbrite it will increase the computer literacy for myself and the students. While giving us all the freedom of expressing ourselves with all types of media online. Drag-and-drop images, videos, cloud documents, presentations, LinkedIn recommendations, badges, eTranscripts, web links and even audio recordings into your portfolios. These are skills that we all need to build on to stay marketable to be employed and enviable to a company.

Reading & Math

Cosmetology
A blog is having the flexibility and freedom to say what you want, share your life experiences or promote a cause, and earn what you want by promoting a business. All while creating your blog to look exactly the way you want it to look. Most of all it is a platform of freedom with no limitations. As I researched and read the top 10 reviews on Blogs: WordPress, Wix, and Tumblr was the ones that struck out to me. I liked WordPress for the professionalism that it offers but it has limitations (pictures and videos) on what could be upload, Wix more geared towards business websites verse blogs. I chose Tumbler because I teach cosmetology therefore, the benefits were more valuable. The blog allows pictures, videos, blog scheduling, and it can be private or public. I can post directly from my email and convert my posts into audio posts: which is good for my students with learning disabilities without exposing them. It can connect to Facebook & Twitter for notifications which, all my students are familiar with and have access to which, would cancel all excuses they could have. In my search of a blog page or site I noticed some were more focused around a discussion board style that solicit feedback from others and generated dialogue between users in a specific group. Some were promote towards business websites. Or they were just simply a blog, with ideas where it is meant to deliver a message, and not start dialogue to a specific group. The content would be how reading and math can be used in cosmetology. In reading the focus would be on terminology which would stretch the student’s foundation of understanding why they are doing what they do. Math in geometry with the focus on shapes, angle and lines on they play a role in haircutting. The learner would know that reading the chapters for and understanding would make them a better stylist. For example the terminology learned in hair cutting chapter would be valuable to the learner during a service. Therefore, a client says she “wants a wedge bob, angle bob, or even an asymmetrical bob” you would know what the client is speaking about without a picture being presented. The learner would know the same diagonal and horizontal lines in finding the slope in math are connected. So, the geometry connection is visualizing the same lines shapes and angle in math are used in a haircut. Then the learner can execute the style without hesitations. Then the reading and math can go hand-and-hand in hairstyling. The pedagogical stance is to facilitate the learning in the classroom and on the salon floor. I would also use my experience as a current active stylist of 23 plus years in the business. To create real life scenarios by showing a series pictures and each student would tell me what they called each picture and then list all the other names they have heard them referred to as. This would show them that terminology is everything also once they gather that mental picture in their head. Then I would employ their math teachers’ knowledge about lines from the math point of view and how they relate. This would help the learner be able to recall and connect the chapter on haircutting with reading and math to determine what angles, lines, and sections their plan to take in order to execute the style.
As far as technology goes, the computer lab is currently under construction, so students have access to their cell phones, and their own personal tables or iPad. However, at this time we don’t have any programs that is assigned through the school other than blackboard which, is used as a discussion board or a blog. However, I would not have the ability to outside interaction of other professionals, since it is only for students strictly assigned to my class. Therefore, I would use YouTube and upload how-to videos on haircuts to reinforce what a textbook, my experience, the math teacher and still pictures showed prior. Then used the Tumblr blog site for them to take pictures of their work, display their on a digital portfolio, upload projects, and ideas to ensure their work is safe and easily accessible. Next in the Blog they would be able to communicate with fellow classmates. I would invite credible professional styles to help expound on the discussions to help the learner to think outside to the box, and get other viewpoints. Post via discuss or video hair tips, remedies, color corrections and much more to help grow their knowledge in the beauty world. Giving them the opportunity the student to explore deeper into all the various branches of specialties which includes: hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures/pedicures and etc. and where it could take the career of student in life. The obstacle would be how to utilize the blog in class during class time with no computer lab, or program that can coincide with each other. Although, there would be some limitations, it would be the perfect source to communicate and solve or prevent hair issues. While keeping me the teacher and the learner abreast in the hair industry especially since I am preparing and training for career. Most of all we as teachers must integrate technology into the lesson, it was best said by Koehler “The wall between technology content and pedagogy exit is only in our minds.
