And yes, I only have contact with my non toxic siblings, so 3 of 8 (One of my brothers died when I was a child. I still count him, but obviously I can't keep in contact with him. My apartment building is across from a large field, so there's quite a few wild animals. Groundhogs have also made a burrow under the stairs to my building, so we'll see them occasionally. My wife and I refer to them as "the neighbors".

for example, seeing a coyote in your backyard is seeing a wild animal. seeing a cougar in a zoo is not.

for example, seeing a feral cat in your local park is not seeing a wild animal.

Normalize dating your friend because you needed an emotional rebound, but didn't actually set out to date them. You only called it dating because one of your now ex-friends asked point blank if y'all were dating, and you both kind of shrugged.

So you're dating them, but they're aroace. Which is cool because you have religious trauma, and you're still trying to be a good Christan of your childhood denomination, even as you're trying to learn how to be happy. So you tell yourself that this is the best case scenario because you can be gay, you just can't have sex with an AFAB person ever.

You keep dating and your partner(?) brings up polyamory. They want you to be happy but know they can't give you what you carve- a physical relationship. You say nah, because you have a strong emotional bond with your partner and that's what you need.

Fast forward 4 months later. You're in therapy, deprogramming from your upbringing, and finally feeling like you deserve happiness. Once again, your partner (?) brings up polyamory. But this time, you're ready. There's only one other person in the world you'd want to be with- your Canadian best friend, and long time crush. So you ask your crush, and they are absolutely ecstatic to be your partner (girlfriend at the time).

You do the poly thing for a few weeks, and then it hits you. You've *never* felt any sort of romantic feelings for your first partner. It was only ever friendship, but you didn't know the difference. Not like the feelings you have for your girlfriend. So, you part ways with your first partner amicably and remain good friends to this day.

Luckily my wife and I can live off their paycheck. But not everyone is so lucky 🥲
