When it comes to the hatred on the internet nowadays, I’ve realized it’s far better (for me) to focus on creating spaces safe from that. At first it was for me, but then I realized that I was doing something far better than interacting with grifters and boosting their sick messaging. I’ve gotten a lot of heartfelt thank yous from people that belong to marginalized groups, viewing my servers and my pages as a place of refuge from a world that’s decided to hate them so much.

Initially, that wasn’t really my intention. I just wanted a place to play good games with good people. I was a lonely kid just wanting to hang out. But it had me thinking. I look at the people that are too far gone and I realize… a friend was all that they needed.

And no, I’m not trying to be cliché here. I genuinely think this would’ve prevented a lot of the bigots we see today. You know how the bad actors of today prey on (mostly men’s) insecurities and fears of the unaccomplished to make them what they are today. Someone that cared about you would’ve stopped that before it began.

I never thought my antics online was for any good, but I’m starting to view it a bit differently. Maybe, just maybe, one of the people I roped into my shenanigans found someone that’d look out for them. Maybe that’s one less victim to the hatred thats sweeping the internet.
