[ ZhongXiao week 2023 - Day 3 ]
Dream Eating
Story time:
Zhongli has nightmares /often/ of the Archon War, and the bloodshed and absolute misery that came with it. Xiao can't stand watching him in pain, so he helps by eating Zhongli's nightmares.
When Zhongli finds out that Xiao has been eating his nightmares, Zhongli politely asks him to stop. He explains to Xiao, that while he appreciates the gesture and care from his little bird, he'd rather feel the pain. It is a part of him, which he cherises, even if it is painful.
SO, instead of Xiao eating his nightmares away, Zhongli suggests that the yaksha help him in other ways: For example, take him in his arms and comfort him. It is such a human thing to do, but it's very effective.
... and that's precisely what Xiao does the next time he wakes up to Zhongli sobbing next to him. Gently takes the man in his arms, holds him close and whispers sweet nothings in his ear. Zhongli calms down, wakes up to Xiao caressing his hair. He smiles and thanks Xiao.
