What would Daareios and Kreggs relationship be like after settling down (good au) and/or after Kregg betrays Thragg? I'm asking this because I love complicated father-son relationships (it's not daddy issues I swear I love my dad-)

Comic spoilers Daar and Kregg always had a very complicated mentor/protégé dynamic. Kregg felt responsible for Daareios but couldn't directly show any concern/attachment as it was frowned upon in the Empire, and Daareios kept pushing Kregg away because of his daddy issues.

I have many thoughts about them - most are angsty, unsurprisingly. In Daar's canon, he resents Kregg after the betrayal, and goes after him specifically during the final fight. At that point, Daareios is an exceptionally good fighter, and he almost manages to kill Kregg. I imagine that Kregg would have a lot to say to him in this 'final' exchange - but at that point, he'd know that Daareios is too far gone and can't be reasoned with.

The good ending AU is sickly sweet, though.

After Kregg finds love on Earth and becomes a family man, I think he'd try to connect with Daareios again .. he'd still care about him, even after the massive falling out they had when Daareios chose to side with Thragg. Some wholesomeness that would occur:

Kregg would undoubtedly try to find out more about Daareios' interests. The most obvious one being his music taste, as he'd wear band shirts and band logo patches on his jacket etc (Daar's fashion on Earth would be a mix of punk & metalhead). Even though Kregg doesn't share his music taste, he checks some of Daar's favorite bands out just so he has something to talk about with him. Typical Dad move, yknow? ('Metallica, huh? I really like that music. It's so full of .. energy. Very passionate.')

Once they get over the initial awkwardness, I think Daareios would like spending time with Kregg. Especially since Kregg was someone he always respected and looked up to, even though he reminded him too much of his father sometimes. Since we've seen Kregg with a motorcycle in that one panel, I headcanon that he's an enthusiastic biker and takes very good care of his machine. He'd no doubt want to show it off to Daar. Cue another bonding opportunity - Kregg doing maintenance on the motorcycle as Daareios watches and learns (and occasionally hands Kregg any tools he might need). Metallica plays on the radio, courtesy of Kregg picking up some old music tapes specifically for Daar's visits. :]

The cutest part of it all (to me) would be the potential of Kregg's children seeing Daareios as a cool mysterious older brother figure. Some of the kids would undoubtedly be spooked by him (Especially since he always wears black clothes and has skulls on his jacket! Scary! And he has an eyepatch, just like Dad! Also scary, but cool!) but their curiosity would be stronger. I think Daareios would have to put up with a ton of questions, and interacting with children wouldn't exactly be his forte, but he'd get used to them eventually, just like he got used to Kregg. (He also figures out that a good way to get the kids to shut up for a second is to play the guitar for them.)

Daareios plays guitar? That’s so cool! Does he play professionally or is it just a hobby? Is he in a band?

Yesss, he'd dabble in music if given the chance (on Earth or Talescria or elsewhere). He'd learn to play guitar freakishly well. It'd be his first 'real' interest, so he'd probably go weeks without sleep just to learn to play well in a very short amount of time.

He wouldn't pursue a career or anything like that tho. Maybe he'd perform some gigs in random bars on Talescria from time to time (after being convinced by Gorr to do so), but he'd mostly only play for himself and those close to him.

Daareios would also be a good singer. He'd be very shy about it though. I imagine he would sound very similar to Trevor Something, one of my favorite musicians out there. <3 'The Ghost' is a good reference song (and also a banger).

Has Daareios considered having kids of his own?

Comic spoilers He considered it when Thragg gave the order for the pureblooded Viltrumites to hide on Earth and procreate with humans. But he never actually took part in this mission. Daareios hated the idea of mating with humans, not entirely because of their perceived inferiority, but because of his own crippling fear of intimacy. The thought of anyone, human or Viltrumite, being intimate with him in any manner made him feel too anxious and disgusted.

(Anyone other than Thragg, that is. He has very different thoughts about him, of course.)

He'd try to keep himself busy on the Moon Base, finding any possible excuse not to go on Earth and take part in the repopulation efforts.

He'd annoy Thragg a lot in this arc. It'd be the first time he doesn't listen to every single word Thragg says, and any sort of disapproval from the Grand Regent would break Daar's heart.

That scene of Thragg yelling at Lucan, Kregg and Anissa? Yeah, just imagine Daar standing there as well and trying not to cry as he gets criticized for doing fuckall. 😭

He'd have a chonky Unopan Feline! As seen here in this absolutely beautiful illustration by @d0rksausalito💜 This is the 'good ending' where Daareios lives through the canon events of the comic, distances himself from Thragg, and finds someone who can truly understand him and appreciate him for who he is. He ends up living on Talescria with Gorr, a Thraxan-Viltrumite hybrid that was previously one of the soldiers under Daareios' command (Gorr belongs to @d0rksausalito). They mean a lot to me 🥺💜💜
