Finally, after years of suffering alone, the insurance plan at Harry’s new job covered omega heat services. As a grown omega adult, it finally felt like the right time to try it out. And, since taking an entire week of heat leave would really put him behind at work, using a service to shorten it seemed like a responsible decision. At least that’s how he rationalized it. He was nervous about his decision but it was too late. The doorbell rang.

“Hi!” The alpha said again and Harry took the hand he offered and shook it firmly. “I’m Louis from Omega Services. It’s nice to meet you.”

SUNDAY SNIPPET

Burning Soul coming to you on June 16th brought to you by the @1daboficfest

Intruder. Thereat. Must destroy. His first instinct was to growl and lash out with his teeth. Then the scent hit him. Mine. The realization was so powerful it almost hurt. He whimpered, laying his ears back as the other wolf was, also startled, backed out into the clearing, neck fur ruffed and teeth bared, ready to face him. He was a gorgeous omega wolf, his silvery fur accented by hints of dusky brown around his muzzle and ear tips. He was a sight to behold, and Harry’s wolf was chomping wanting to... mate him.

Intruder-trespasser. He must be dealt with. His human brain warred with having an unknown shifter invading his territory, but it was of no avail when he was in wolf form. His wolf was smitten with this heavenly scented omega, immersed in the instincts of mate, claim, mine, for the first time in his life.

Instead of returning the growl, Harry stepped into the clearing with his head up, ears pointed forward, tail wagging. The other wolf, noting his demeanor, slowly let his lip slip down over his teeth and pointed his ears forward too. So, no snarling at each other. Harry took that as an opportunity to move forward, front paws slapping playfully on the ground until he was within an inch of the strange wolf. I’m not playful, the human in him scoffed, embarrassed by his wolf’s display, but unable to deny that this gorgeous omega made him want to do all of that and more. Unfortunately, he did more.

A play bow.

There he was, in front of an intruder, with his front paws and muzzle on the ground, his ass in the air and his tail wagging a mile a minute. The other wolf sat and let his tongue loll out of his mouth, panting. He was amused. He was laughing at Harry. This is so humiliating, he thought, but he was along for the ride and begrudgingly enjoying it, because his scent, that feeling, the pull couldn’t be denied. This wolf was magnificent and all he could think to do was mate him, make him part of his pack, fill him with his puppies.

Prime Betas

We’ve all seen the posts about Prime Alphas and Prime Omegas but I would like to propose Prime Betas!

Quite honestly betas are more often left out on quite a bit of worldbuilding potential that can be made in the omegaverse. They are seen as the ones who keep society running as usual, not swayed by their instincts like their counterparts. They are seen as level headed, relatively docile, and nearly cold in their personalities. But I think they deserve a little bit of love! So I present to you Prime Beta head canons.

General Prime Beta Attributes:

Both male and female prime betas have baby fangs, that if used accordingly, could mimic the ability to make a mating bond with their partner. These are specifically useful when said partner is either an alpha or omega. 

Ability to smell distinct scents. It is a usually held canon that betas are unable to detect scents unless in cases of extreme circumstances. Lacking this ability tends to put them at a disadvantage to be able to read their partner’s scent. But with prime betas they are able to determine their partner’s moods easier.

Primes are more competitive as well. We all know that betas are determined to be productive but I would say that because of their elevated pheremones they can be goaded into competing against an opponent that they are not guaranteed to win against. 

While there is a very small chance of it happening a prime beta could go feral if the right conditions are met but the chances are small. 

Prime betas are also almost equally as possessive over their pack, mate, or property as an alpha or omega. While A/o relationships are seen as the ideal relationship prime betas level the playing field, they also want to be seen as a viable individual worth mating with from their love interest.

Prime betas also can also learn to vocalize something close to growling, whining, and chirping.

Prime Male Betas:

Their anatomy is closer to that of an alpha, featuring the stereotypical broad shoulders, higher metabolism with the benefits of being able to gain muscle mass with ease, and a generally stronger beta scent. 

Prime Female Betas:

Now consider that if male betas resemble closer to and alpha then the female betas would skew closer to more omega features. This would mean that they are a bit more shapely, appealing to those in search of furthering their bloodline. I would also venture to say that their scents would lean more on the sweeter side. Consider that they might have eyes that appear more doe-like and innocent.

Conclusion:

Betas deserve more love and a greater role when world building in the omegaverse. While they aren’t usually portrayed as completely desperate to mate they still stove to fulfill a purpose and find happiness. Betas are driven individuals who are not always wound up in the difficulties that come with being an alpha or omega.

໑ Ho Ho Hopefully by safetyfilm / @larrieblr (T, 5k, strangers to lovers, christmas au, elf harry) very cute and lovely fic. perfect for Christmas but also when you’re in the mood to read a fluffy, magical story with a happy ending. also! i didn’t mention this under the fic but i didn’t read the tags and it didn’t click to me that Nicholas was Nick lol.

໑ Wanted: Dog Walker by YesIsAWorld / @louandhazaf (G, 6k, strangers to lovers, neighbours au, dog walker harry) very sweet! i love how Harry was with Clifford, and i enjoyed so much the developing of Louis and Harry’s relationship from employer/employee to friends to something more. their texts were so lovely.

໑ Unleashing Adoration by hazzahtomlinson / @itsnotreal (E, 6k, strangers to lovers, dog sitter harry, filthy rich louis) this was so cute! Clifford being enamoured with Harry was so relatable. and i loved all the domesticity than came with Harry being at home regularly.

໑ Under The Paris Sky by BoosBabycakes / @boosbabycakes28​ (NR, 7k, strangers to lovers, fashion influencer louis, photographer harry, paris) this was a lovely meet-cute! i love them bumping into each other, and what a better place than Paris.

໑ Behind closed doors by bluegreenish / @greenblueish (E, 10k, friends to lovers, a/b/o university au, omega louis, alpha harry) this was so entertaining and fun, couldn’t put it down. i even made my own theory as to what had happened and the moment it was debunked, i grew more interested!

໑ a day at the game by jessicamcqueen (E, 20.8k, strangers to lovers, a/b/o au, kiss cam, baseball game, professor louis, lawyer harry) this was so lovely! from the moment Harry appeared at the baseball game, i knew Louis would be in trouble. i liked it how the both of them came from different circumstances but were still looking for the same thing.

໑ life will not always be by reliablyimperfect / @mmm_kat   (E, 31.6k, established relationship, sequel, the conjuring au, kid fic, read tags and author’s note) oh my god, this fic. THIS FIC!!! author doesn’t have tumblr so she’s probably never gonna see this but i loved this! it’s obviously a dark fic but there’s so much domesticity that you forget about it for a minute and then BANG! anyway, please give it a read, it’s the sequel to another fic and both are worth reading!

໑ Set the Sky Alight, Oh Holy Night by LadyLondonderry / @londonfoginacup​ (T, 33.8k, strangers to lovers, roommates au, advent fic) this was A RIDE! i feel bad for not reading this as it was posted because i bet it would’ve been a lot funnier than it already was. i should warn you that if things like mince or clowns scare you or make you uncomfortable, there are some mentions of them but they’re not part of anything major.

໑ My Other Half Was You by lululawrence / @lululawrence​ (NR, 35k, strangers to lovers, grief, dreams, yoga instructor harry, acrobat louis) i fell in love with the format of this fic. even the titles of the stories tell you the story, it was amazing making my own theories. as for the fic, it was painful at times but so comforting at others. i’m starting to love reading Lewis in fics lol.

໑ I Keep Looking For Magic by lululawrence / @lululawrence (NR, 36k, strangers to lovers, fake/pretend relationship, actor louis, advent fic) very lovely reading! there were very specific things that made the characters get closer and closer, and i think it’s in the small details that you can see the chemistry of two people. i especially loved how the author used christmas songs to name the chapters.

໑ now i think that i could love you back by maroonmoonlouis / @maroonmoonlouis (E, 42k, enemies to lovers, a/b/o royalty au, prince louis, prince harry) what an exciting story! the tension was palpable from the first moment. it was one of those fics that i kept screaming at the screen as if the characters were going to listen to me lol definitely check it out if you enjoy a fun rivalry between characters.

Summary:

Louis swears on his life that that man came out of literal nowhere and he thanks each lucky star for having good breaks in his car.

This strange alpha also happens to be the most beautiful being Louis has laid his eyes on.

For some unknown reason, the omega feels safe around the alpha. It might seem strange, but you can't always explain why or how things are the way they are. All you can really be sure of is that they happen for a reason. There's a higher power (call it what you want) that knows better and definitely knows more than you do.

“Fucking hell!” He curses, groaning as he steadies himself.

He turns around, glaring at what has caused him to lose his balance. He frowns when he sees two cardboard boxes that seem to be moving boxes according to the stickers that are on them.

What the hell?!” He curses again under his breath, hooking his duffle bag in its original position over his shoulder, and still glaring at the offensive objects, before looking back at his abandoned conversation with Liam. He checks to make sure his phone screen isn’t damaged from having been tackled against the hard surface of the wall.

“Oh my god!” He hears a panicked voice coming from down the hall. He doesn’t know this voice. To be fair Harry doesn’t know if he would even recognize a voice he has heard in this building. He is such a lone grumpy wolf that he hardly talks to anyone here and barely listens anyway when they speak to him, “I’m so sorry! You didn’t hurt yourself did you?”

Harry sighs, “I didn’t, but Jesus, this is not the place to leave boxes.” He complains, pocketing his phone that is thankfully intact, and finally raises his head to look at the person who is talking to him.

The man is jogging down the hallway and wow, yeah he definitely doesn’t know him because he would have remembered him. For sure. The beautiful creature that is now a few feet away from him has the most wonderful blue eyes, high cheekbones, feathery hair that Harry would want to feel under his fingers, curves that could make anyone drool over and, what? Okay Harry needs to get it together he just saw the man for the first time literally five seconds ago.

“I’m so sorry, really,” The creature from heaven speaks again, and Harry has to shake his head to put his thoughts in order and function like a normal human being, “The guys from the moving agency just put the last boxes in the elevator and I couldn’t move them all at once so I just left them there thinking I would’ve had time to clear them away before someone arrived. Clearly I was wrong.” The man chuckles, his cheeks blushing slightly with embarrassment, his fingers playing nervously with the hem of his light blue t-shirt that falls over his hips.

“It’s-” Harry clears his throat, suddenly very dry, “It’s okay. Just- Just be careful next time.”

“I don’t think there will be a next time, because I only plan on moving in here once. But yeah, I’ll try to be.” He chuckles again, and god Harry feels so stupid. Of course it won’t happen again. He wants to slap his forehead. God what’s the matter with him this evening?
