You know, I'm a huge fan of the unreliable narrator trope, BUT having said that, I believe the majority of mcs are actually unreliable narrators. Even in real life, describing events and telling stories, US as humans are unreliable narrators. Because if you're telling a story where you do something "not so great" you'll probably sugar coat it. Characters are the same. Even if they aren't intended to be unreliable, usually they are. Especially in fantasy books with the good guy/bad guy/ hero/ villain kind of tropes. Characters will defend their own actions if they're the "good guys" because the author wants us to BELIEVE they are the good guys, and write the events and actions of the character in such a way that we think they are the good guys, even if maybe they weren't. Hence, unreliable. On that note, I fully think of Feyre as an unreliable narrator. She was pushed into a new world she knew nothing about, fought and did everything she did for Tamlin, just to be swept away by Rhys and Feyre DID love Tamlin, and he certainly loved her. But now, Tamlin is supposed to be the bad guy in that story, because, from Feyre and IC pov, he locked her up, he went to Hybern - and what else? Not much. But he also cradled Feyre when she died UTM, made the High Lords bring her back, watched his bride be taken away by someone WHO CAN COTROL MINDS (she left loving him and came back pinned against him), he wrote her poems and tried to protect her, albeit in the wrong way, but Tamlin is just as traumatised as Feyre was, except he had no IC to help him, and Feyre views him as part of her trauma (being locked in the house) and so her perception of him, and by extent our perception of him, is going to be warped.

So, yeah Feyre AND most MC's are unreliable narrators, because very few people have the guts to be completely and one hndred percent honest with themseles, including characters and their authors.

Azriel's mate

okay no, I thought Az and Elain were like the cutest mf's ever but now I'm kind like Lucien and Elain?? Actually really work??? And SJM should give us more than breadcrumbs??? And also that frees up room for Azris - and I'm not a fan of putting two random guys together, but Azris actually works. Like spymaster and the Heir to an enemy court with more secrets than we could possibly count, not to mention the pure angst if Az had to pick between the Night Court and Eris- SJM needs to drop an Azriel book ASAP because that man has SO MUCH GOING ON and we don't get to see half of it because nobody ever pays enough attention to him.

And I used to HATE Eris with a PASSION but now he's lowkey a fave. like he's such a mamas boy, and he's so cunty it's amazing. he's lowkey giving regulus black.
