"Áramótaskaup" → Part of the Stefán Karl 50th Celebration Prompt List
Another piece I made to improve my skills in Blender and this time featuring Bogo Dumont!
He’s from one of my favorite skits in Áramótaskaup and was also the first character that introduced me to the show.
I sculpted him in Blender and then painted over and edited the result in Procreate, since I’m still a total newbie when it comes to 3D stuff xP
And for the uninitiated, here's the sketch with provided translations!

"Behind the Curtain" → Part of the Stefán Karl 50th Celebration Prompt List
For this prompt, I thought it would be fun to create a GIF set showing parts of the process behind Stefán Karl becoming both the Grinch and Robbie Rotten!
For those interested, here’s the video for the Grinch, and here’s the video for Robbie Rotten.

"You Are a Pirate!" → Part of the Stefán Karl 50th Celebration Prompt List
While brainstorming ideas for this prompt, I randomly remembered something interesting!
The episode of Rottenbeard had Ken Pontac on board as one of the writers, and he also helped write the lyrics for You Are a Pirate.
Something else Ken Pontac worked on was Bump in the Night, a show I grew up with and still have a soft spot for.
So, since I was trying to improve my skills in Blender, I modeled what Rottenbeard might have looked like if he appeared in Bump in the Night as a claymation-style action figure :)

"Plantdad" → Part of the Stefán Karl 50th Celebration Prompt List
For this prompt, I figured it was as better time as any to clean up one of my first "official" 3D models and scene!
I wanted to recreate a drawing I made in a low-poly art style, featuring our favorite plant dad, Stefán Karl 💚🌱💜

"Rainbow Children" → Part of the Stefán Karl 50th Celebration Prompt List
Stefán Karl interview on Fólk með Sirrý (2003)
I figured to use this prompt to finally post a video I wanted to post on here for a while! And to hopefully try out a new experiment with translating content for the blog.
The video includes English subtitles once you turn on CC!
This is part of a current experiment I have of seeing if I can translate Icelandic audio by myself with the use of various transcription and translation tools and Icelandic dictionaries.
If there are any mistakes please let me know so I can improve this method further and test it's limits. 🙏

Beautiful to see this, happy birthday Stefán Karl 💜
Stefán Karl's 50th - Day 10
I'll be posting the prompts for days 4-9 later on, I've been very busy with work stuff, but figured this was a day I wanted to post on "in time".
Stefán Karl's 50th birthday.
A weird sense of sorrow fills me on this day, but also a certain kind of hope and even joy. Joy over the times we got to share with him, everything Stefán's ever worked on and done - it all follows us even when he's not here anymore. Even when I'm gloomy, I can't but smile. Smile because it happened, as they say. The shadow of sadness will always yield before the light he still brings to our lives.
In his honor I decided to bring a candle and some hand-picked flowers to a memorial of loved ones who rest eternally elsewhere. It felt like something to do on this big day.

Til hamingju með afmælið, Stefán 💙.

Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir posted on Facebook, July 10th 2025
Below is a re-post for archival purposes, please check the original post as it has a unique video!
//English below//

🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽
Stefán Karl would have turned 50 today. We—the family—are gathering at the home of Stefán’s mother, Hulda Karen, to remember him.
Stefán knew he would leave this world young, and perhaps that explains his urgency to taste life—every drop of it! He wasn’t afraid to take on challenges, met adversity with grace, until there was no way out. Stefán’s final struggle was hard on us all, because it is painful to watch someone so young so at odds with his fate.
Everything beautiful Stefán carried within him—his joy, drive, and boldness—our children have inherited in abundance. And so I say:
Death is utterly insignificant compared to the energy and momentum that lives within each of us. That energy lives on—literally in the descendants of those who pass, but just as powerfully in the communities and hearts of those lucky enough to have known them, even if only for a short while.
One thing I’ve learned: Life is a school where we choose our own subjects. What seems desirable isn’t always what brings the deepest fulfillment. So let us choose our lessons wisely.
Blessed be the memory of Stefán Karl.

"Happy Birthday!" → Part of the Stefán Karl 50th Celebration Prompt List
Today would've mark Stefán Karl's 50th year, the milestone that inspired me to finally begin this month-long celebration in hopes of bringing fans together.
I’ve wanted to do something like this for years. As I mentioned in the announcement post, the idea was partly inspired by something Steinunn Ólína once shared:
"I remember how determined he was to celebrate his 50th birthday and repeatedly invited his doctors to that party of hope."
Last year, I had something prepared like usual, just a simple portrait to mark his birthday on July 10th. But I wasn’t in a good place mentally. I wasn’t satisfied with what I had drawn, and even though it was complete, I knew I could do better but I just couldn't at the time.
So I left it in my drafts and didn’t post anything.
While preparing for this celebration, I remembered that portrait. And I decided to give my idea another chance. I started fresh, with better references, a clearer head, and more technical tools I learned, 3D posing, photo editing, and some light photo-bashing.
But looking at them now, I realize this isn’t just a difference in skill. It’s a difference in my mental health.
Even if the older one wasn't as detailed, it was still good, but just not as good as I would've liked it, so, I went all out for the second one.
Regardless of which one people like, I'm happy to finally post them both and to use this month as a motivator to get better overall.
This is not the end of the celebration, so, I hope you look forward to see more and to join in as well!
Life is now! #CelebrateStefanKarl ~✨💜

"Something He Taught You" → Part of the Stefán Karl 50th Celebration Prompt List
This was one of the prompts I struggled with the most.
I wanted to create an edit to go with my thoughts, and after some time, I was finally satisfied with how it turned out. But that still didn’t make it any easier to figure out what I wanted to write.
The truth is, I’ve learned so much from Stefán Karl that it feels impossible to sum it all up in one post... So maybe I should start with the first thing he helped me through.
I first learned about him toward the end of 2016. I was around 16 or 17 at the time, going through the kind of things any depressed and socially anxious teenager might face, especially one who had been bullied throughout school.
But something shifted the day I learned about Stefán Karl’s illness. It was the first time I felt a strong, immediate need to help someone I didn’t even know. I couldn’t fully explain why, but I remember begging my parents to donate to him.
From that point on, I kept up with him. I read everything he posted. I watched everything I could find. I wanted to learn more about who he was. It was the first time I ever truly "idolized" a real person.
Over time, I realized that idolizing him wouldn’t be right. He was a human being, it would be wrong to put him up on a pedestal if I truly cared about him as a person.
Still, he became a massive role model for me. He brought me joy, encouragement, and inspiration. He made me want to be better.
At the end of the day, I’m human, and so was he. We make mistakes. We say things we don’t mean. We let emotions get the better of us. But despite all that, I try to follow the guidance he left behind. His thoughts, his feelings, his words... they continue to touch me deeply.
It’s his humanity that made me respect and admire him even more.
He will never know who I am, but I learned so much from him. My life changed because of him. Thank you, Stefán Karl. 💜🌱

"Voice Acting" → Part of the Stefán Karl 50th Celebration Prompt List
For the Voice Acting prompt, I wanted to highlight my favorite character and voice performance by Stefán Karl: Count Dracula from Hotel Transylvania 2!
I chose to draw him as if he was in a live performance rather than just animated.
Sadly, the first film didn’t get an Icelandic dub, but the sequel did and Stefán voiced the lead role. I loved watching it so much. His performance in it is amazing!

This is just the trailer, for those interested in watching the movie, there may be a way to watch it here! *wink wink, nudge nudge*
