“Yes Forte, I know. Adam and I have just been too busy lately with his trips and the baby, but that’s why we have you on salary so that you are still paid whether we need you at the moment or not. I hope you aren’t too upset with us. We do have the christening coming up. Could you work on something for that?”

“Are you aware that I have not been commissioned a single piece of music in over three months?…”

Belle smiled sympathetically to Claudia. Never did Belle think that the two would be on close terms, let alone invite her for tea. She was always so sure the triplets disliked her, especially after everything with Gaston. Maybe it was in the past. “There are so many days I feel like this is all a dream and that I’ll wake up and be back in the cottage in the village, but I’m very thankful for my life here. It’s like having a whole new family with Papa, of course.” She explained, her smile never faltering. “But you’re a very wonderful person, Claudia. I’m sure you’ll find the love of your life soon.”

“You know Belle,” Claudia gave a sigh after sitting down in an extravagant chair. “You truly live the dream life. A gorgeous prince, a massive home. I only wish I could have your life.”

“Alright.” Belle conceded. “That’s fair.” Still she was excited. “Merci, darling. I’m sure whatever it is, it will be wonderful.”

Belle couldn’t help a smile to see the housekeeper so willing to accept her help. Mrs. Potts was always so busy and perhaps it would be easier on her if Belle did help. “Why don’t I set the table and afterwards I can help you with the desserts?” She reasoned, seeing that the dinner looked well taken care of so far. The aromas of the kitchen were heavenly and Belle had no doubts that the dinner would exceed her expectations. Mrs. Potts was a wonderful cook. Belle loved to cook and she was quite talented at it. She had hoped that one day soon she could cook dinner for everyone as a way to thank them for all that they’d done for her. 

“Ohh, there’s always something to do, dear,” she responded, happily, turning to face the young woman. “The desserts haven’t been made yet, and I’m still working on the main course.” As she spoke she pulled a rather large roast duck out of the oven to check on its progress. “ The table hasn’t been set yet, either. If you want to help you can take your pick, I won’t mind at all. It’ll surely be appreciated.”

Belle thanked Mrs. Potts with a warm smile as the elder woman brought the tea in and she reached over to hand Cinderella her tea. “I’m so glad you were able to come. It’s been so long since I’ve seen you. How have you been?”

“Then they don’t know what they’re missing.” 

“I doubt they would….”

There was a look of excitement and confusion that came over Belle and with a raised brow she looked at him, curiously. “My special surprise?”

Belle smiled and reached over to lay her hand on his affectionately. “How was hunting today or were you at the tavern? I can’t seem to remember where you said you were off to this morning.”

“It’s just....” Belle sighed and accepted the glass with a gracious nod. “Adam has to go to Corona soon to sort out our alliances and I’ll be here alone to rule France. What if I do something wrong? I’ve never done this before, not without him.”

“Now tell me my dear, what´s going on” Rose sat down and poured chardonnay in a glass before handing it to her. She wrapped her arms around Belle and stroked her hair. “You know you can tell me anything.”

Belle felt a sense of relief as Merida ensured her the horse hadn’t run off. “Oh, I’m so glad. I had hoped you were too worried.” She replied, passing the reigns over to her with a smile. “It’s so nice to see you.” 

 “Och, Belle!” Merida smiled brightly at the sight of her. “Stone th’ crows, it’s been an age!” She hurried over to take Angus’s reigns gently, stroking his long nose. “Ah let him loose tae graze, ah knew where he was– but thanks fer bringing him back.”

“Oh, Merci.” Belle smiled, her glance falling to the teacup in Rose’s hand. She had hoped that wasn’t the last of it. “I thought I might take Philippe for a run. Is there any tea left?”

Rose looked up from her tea and smiled. “It´s in your room, I put it there when I cleaned” She took a sip from her cup and tilted her head. “What are you up to?”
