Calling me insufferable is rich. I'm actually a member of a YIMBY group and we have no interest in 'abolishing safety standards'. The closest thing is abolishing two-stairwell requirements for buildings over a certain unit size, which are onerous and make it impossible to build anything less than a city block. In fact, if your lot didn't enable hoarding by landlords, it'd increase the quality of housing.

Who do you think fights to preserve single-family zoning? Landlords, real estate agents, and NIMBY residents who want to keep their neighborhoods separated from people they deem less desireable.

I dont care what ideological vocabulary you retreat into. The fact is we have a severe housing shortage across the nation caused by the building collapse after the Recession and demand for more single-occupant units. The other fact is that localities that have lower vacancy rates and lower rates of construction have both exploding housing costs and homeless populations.

I'm so sick of all of this 'everything is everything' ideological bullshit. Upzoning is not a giveaway to Blackrock it's a way to build more homes for people who need them. Unless you acknowledge the weight of political and economic gravity, and actually desire to do the best that's possible with limited resources and in the face of a housing crisis, get out of the way.

they're a little older than that but only barely. utterly astroturfed "movement" intended to market right-wing economic policy to progressives. has basically no grassroots support whatsoever. a large segment of it is former neoreactionaries who are trying to distance themselves from that movement since it evolved into the alt-right and some working class people got involved, because these are people who hate working class people.

basically, they're trying to hijack the democratic party the same way they tried to hijack the republican party- which they largely succeeded at, but they view as a failure because the neoreactionary movement lost a lot of it's original anti-populist character when it became mainstream.

Every day the "left" makes me want nothing to do with them. NIMBYism is rooted in segregationist policy. And yes, zoning is the primary cause of the affordability crisis. When demand outstrips supply, suppliers can jack up prices however much they want.
