Before + After! What a difference a year (+ some practice) makes! When you see your lettering every day, it’s hard to see your growth. My idea of fall decorating. 😍 I gravitate to cool, neutral colors in my home, so I’m rather untraditional in my fall decor. I love the colors of the changing leaves, but not in my house. It’s just not “me”. My little white and gold pumpkins from Target last year were my favorite things, and I’m thrilled they brought them back this year with gray ones!! My real pumpkins on my porch last year were actually a stripey gray. Are y’all sick of this piece yet?? (I hope not) But to be honest, I was getting there. I worked long and hard on it over and over until I felt the composition was right. But then came the color choice. I usually stick to black and white because it’s my personal favorite and you don’t have to wonder how it’ll print. However, I just couldn’t make a piece with “pumpkin spice” in it and not give it some color! And that’s where I got stuck. I mentioned a few posts back that I don’t care for traditional fall colors in my decor, but I know that’s just my personal preference and I wasn’t making this piece just for me. I wanted to make *everyone* happy and when you try to make everyone happy, you kinda lose your direction and end up with a big ol’ mess. So I scrapped it and started over. I decided that this time I’d draw inspiration from my favorite fall decor items: those dollar spot pumpkins from @Target! They’re a soft orange, light sage, and a mid gray, and they didn’t let me down. I am finally happy with this piece and feel, after a year of do overs, that it’s complete. I think it’s the perfect compromise between traditional fall colors and my own aesthetic. I hope you think so too. And if you read all this, go treat yourself to a PSL!
