episode 01 [05.30.2020]

the moment that was said, i knew immediately malcolm wasn’t going to truly be like his father. when you see both ainsley and malcolm all grown up, i got the vibe ainsley was more like him than anything. martin saying he isn’t a monster is a laugh because he won’t see himself that way especially in front of his child and saying that monsters don’t exist is a crock because he knows he’s a monster and so does his son.

the moment malcolm got fucking zapped AND malcolm punched that sheriff:

i mean he was right, the man put down the gun so he could get a response to why he was created, made into the broken man he became because of his circumstances. could he have controlled himself to become a more productive member of society? yes. something heavy must have pushed him over the edge that he felt out of control.

that hair in the 2009 flashback was not doing him any favors my dudes. it didn’t make him look any younger than he actually is in real life. i couldn’t help but laugh. i get it was a nightmare of how his father still has a grasp on him in some way, but still... IT WAS FUCKING TRASH. malcolm doesn’t seem like the type to take a break from something he’s clearly passionate about even if it is rather morbid. ainsley seems to be more cutthroat than her brother and it feels obvious that she isn’t as well put together as her persona may allow her to show.

gil is totally stepdaddy material. he clearly cares about bright (whitley) after what happened since he was the arresting officer in 1998. i enjoy the beginnings of hostile working relationships even if they turn into we’re gonna be friends later on down the line. dani still kind of peeves me even after watching all of the episodes, but she’s grown on me from this episode. i get she’s supposed to be no-nonsense type of woman, reliant, and strong, but it’s rather boring and annoying to see a character go at the way someone does something even if it is human nature to judge anyway.

i’ve said this before, but jessica whitley still gives me mad mellie grant vibes and it really off-putting. i’m not saying that’s where bellamy pulled it from, but there are similarities that i cannot ignore. when she becomes a viper, it sounds like mellie. i have no issues with mellie and none with jessica because both women could tag team me and i would thank them. i’m more likely to be more of a jessica sugar baby than mellie, but i like them both. she feels somewhat warmer in her role as jess than mellie even though mel had those moments, just not enough to pull her from her bitch mask. i want this woman to read me a bed time story, tuck me into bed, and then spoon me... istg.

prodigal son [01]

aka i was gonna do something more extravagant, but my attention span sucks shit and i cannot focus so here we are.

like i said a while ago, my best friend introduced me to this show and said it wasn’t even worth watching to make fun of it. i toe dipped in and i actually enjoy it especially to make fun of it. it has very wild moments where i cannot take it seriously and i’m also a cynical, sarcastic person so i wouldn’t be able to hold my tongue when some stupid shit pops up, but it also has genuine moments where it piqued my interest. it takes heavy, dark, and dramatic themes and moments that draw me in, but has sprinkled in light hearted comedic moments. like every show, it has its flaws and annoys the fucking piss out of me, but shows aren’t meant to be perfect. the characters are a nice change of pace with how real they feel to me, how humanized one can make them because of the acting itself. 

does the acting have problems? yes. with jessica, i cannot stop feeling like she is mellie lite because a lot of her character seems to be pulled out of the same realm of character. i feel like it was a type casted role for bellamy, but nothing wrong with typecasting, it just feels kind of off-putting. i would have to rewatch the entire season, but i have no fucking self control when it comes to my focusing issues so i’m trying to do this from memory. edrisa is so horny on main that it has become annoying as all hell. it was kind of funny at first, but now i’m just over it. malcolm just likes to put himself in danger because he feels like he’s like his father when we learn by episode twenty that the child that is most like him is the one that remembers the least at the beginning and that is ainsely, but i’m not surprised. she gave off vibes that she would be as cutthroat as daddy dearest.

i wouldn’t give it a ten because it doesn’t give me that vibe. it’s a good start to beginning a series. i would more likely give it a 7 out of 10, but that feels generous somehow.
