it's absolutely insane the way a person can weave their way into so many minute and uninteresting aspects of your life. that a single other human can, years and years and years down the road, influence everything from your moral compass to your sense of humor and your preferred flavor of antacid.

that one person can become so much a part of you that if they go away, it's like part of you has been amputated. not a leg or an arm or anything so tangible, but some deep, important piece of your insides that grew around them like a splinter and had to be cut away at the same time because they had become the same thing.

they've buried themselves in your heart like a seed and grown roots so deep and strong that you can never pull them all the way out and even long after they are gone, little seedlings will sprout each spring; a reminder you need and crave while also feeling so fucking apprehensive. afraid of the reminders.

more afraid that one day they will cease regrowing.

when do you think Kakashi would be ready to start dating and maybe get married after everything that happened?

"after everything" is... a lot and i think the answer depends on even more factors than things that happened.

i can tell you that for me, i think kakashi is never really "ready" for any of these things because i hc him as being constantly assured that the very worst is just around the corner, about to swallow him & all he loves.

in my version of events, he falls very very slowly in love and doesn't even realize what is happening until it is far too late. i don't think he's emotionally available to pursue anything even semi-serious until after naruto returns from his training with jiraiya. i think he is so broken by the events of his past and then by the fracturing of team 7 that it takes a long time for him to heal himself enough, with the support of his friends, to even open himself up to the possibility of anything more.

marriage? possibly never. definitely not until after he's hokage - the man barely has time to do anything except help his children save the world before then, and i don't think he would plunge into something like that by half, you know? the hokage title takes up so much of his time and energy, it's not until he's at least more settled (and ideally about to pass the hat to naruto) that he can truly breathe and dedicate himself to something like that.
