A League of Their Own
Chapter 19: And So It Begins
Word count: 2991
Total count: 77,175
Rating: T
Summary: After the Avengers crash and burn Tony picks himself back up. With the help and support of those around him, they forge a brighter future together. This is what it means to fight together. This is what it means to be friends. This is what it means to be family.
“We’re sending aid,” Tony said in a tone that should have brooked no argument.
“Tony,” Strange tried once more. “If he’s already got the power stone there’s no need for him to attack the other planets. His next destination is Earth and we need all the ships and manpower available to fight him.”
“We signed a treaty,” Tony clipped. “We gave our word. An entire planet has been destroyed, Stephen. We will honor the terms of our agreement. We can spare a few ships for them. We’re sending aid.” he said again with finality.
This time Strange didn’t try to argue, but simply nodded in resignation.
“Guardians,” Tony addressed the ragtag group who had been instrumental in their preparation efforts up until now. “You know that part of the galaxy better than anyone. We’re sending you with…” At this he looked at Rhodey, who shrugged and spoke into the air.
“ATLAS?”
“Three ships and two squads of the Iron Legion,” the AI supplied immediately.

It is rare for me to truly hate a character in a fiction, especially if they are somehow tied to the main character. Villains or truly horrible characters I can hate, but side characters connected to the main character, those who the main character cares for, well that is difficult. Annoyed, I can be, but hateful? No.
UNTIL I READ CRADLE! (Spoilers for Bloodline)
So, after being treated like trash by the whole Sacred Valley and his own family, Lindon left with obvious ease. In Bloodline he returns after 3 years to save his family and everyone else from a literal disaster, and what happens?
They still treat him like shit. His own parents completelly ignored the fact that he is alive, well, and came back to save them, instead they pick up where they left off 3 years ago: treating him like trash. Blaming him for everything. Claiming that some god must've helped him get stronger, bc they think so little of Lindon. They straigh up continued to bully him.
His. Own. Parents.
And Lindon cared about them. Trying to save them. And still, they treat him like trash, like a broken toy they forgot to throw away.
And of course almost everyone in that valley was a backstabbing bastard, turning on Lindon at any given moment. (Except the Kazan clan, they were cool)
All I can say: They did not deserve being saved by Lindon.

I love the glimpses we get of the insecure, vulnerable Tony Stark. Not domesticated Endgame Tony, but when the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist with all his ostentation and selfishness cracks and he reveals his humanity
When Yinsen is asking about his family and Tony just looks so shy and sheepish when admitting, no, he doesn't have anyone. Because Yinsen can look beyond the wealth and fame and actually see how little Tony has. And it's shameful; Tony wants to be loved and worth something to someone. The showboating man actually looked small for once
Or when Rhodey comes to check on him as he's dying of polladium poisoning and he's too tired to put up a front. Who looks up at his best friend with blank, tired eyes, who needs help to walk. Before the mask gets pulled back down and he says I know what I'm doing and I don't need your help
Who's faced with an 89% percent concentration of poison in his body and can't quite pull it together enough when alone with Natasha. Nat flirts openly, willingly, speaks softly of dirty innuendos and with teasing touches, and Tony pulls away. Coughs awkwardly and ignores them. Asks what to do with his last time on Earth because he's scared. And then the next scene he's laughing, touching her, drinking and boasting. Flaunting his prowess, chasing women. Puts up a front well enough to fool the Black Widow
Tony who can't take anything seriously. Who pokes at a potential rage monster, teases Gods, smirks at the American Hero and makes fun of his outfit. Who's thought of as a joke, a self-centered manchild who thinks he knows better than everyone else. But then. But then Steve asks "first time you've lost a soldier?" and Tony "we are not soldiers." comes out. For just a split second you see his pain and fear. Maybe it's less about knowing better and more about not wanting to see anyone, his friends, die. He isn't made for that even if it's supposedly the "right thing to do"
By the time Tony sacrifices himself in Avengers and wakes up under his teammates' watchful eyes and immediately starts joking about shawarma and homosexuality, they understand. They understand that this is all some big act. That Tony is kind, selfless, worried and insecure. That he wants what he doesn't have and pretends he wants what he does. The women and fame and the pompous attitude all boil down to his softness and kindness being beaten out of him as a child. But it's still there, as much as he tries to hide it with humour and bad manners. He's soft and he cares
#they still don’t get it#but I wish they did#I wish it so bad#Tony deserves better#tony stark#marvel#mcu#avengers#iron man

Summer Reads 2025
So I usually read a lot in the summer, but this summer I read a TON because I discovered audiobooks a few years ago and I can just listen to so many more books than I can physically read so I kind of went wild.
Also I kind of want to keep track of what was good, bad, okay, and a steer clear so I'll just leave this here.
Series: The Riyria Revelations - About two friends who begin as thieves, but learn about themselves and the world along the way to becoming who they are meant to be.
Book One: The Crown Conspiracy - Super fun! I read it after finishing the Farseer Trilogy which left me so very depressed and angry so it was even more fun!
Book Two: Avempartha - Flushes out the world and our two protagonists pasts a bit more and briefly explores the intricacies of friendship.
Book Three: Nyphron Rising - The plot thickens. Things get real. We see a little less of our two friends but that's okay. Stopped after this one because it was getting a little heavy.
Series: Silo - There's a show about it which I liked but there were parts I was really annoyed with and figured the book probably did it better so... went and got the book. About these people living in this silo in a post apocalyptic world and what happens when things go awry. Is the air truly still toxic? Is the Silo a lifeboat or a prison? Are they living the truth, a lie, or a mixture of the two?
Book One: Wool Omnibus - Liked it much better than the show. So much better than the show. I am still unclear why they changed certain things because I felt like it could have still been really good without the change. Same high stakes and everything. But I guess they had to hit their agendas. Season One ends pretty much with book one, but a heard book two was heavy so I'm putting it on hold for a bit.
Series: The Healer's Way - A Russian Isekai about grandmaster healer who dies and gets transported to another world, only to wake up in a new body, whose original occupant has recently perished while been drained of his magic in a prison. Mikhail then must struggle to get out of the prison and begin powering up again as he navigates this strange new world.
Finished Books Three - Nine: Starts off slow but gets exponentially faster until the books are ending way too soon for your liking. Mikhail is the goat and so funny, I love the way he treats Vica. Also the narrator did such a good job. I really enjoy this series. I'd of read more but they aren't out on audible yet :(
Series: The Order of Architects - I obviously liked Healer's Way, which was a collab, so I looked at each of the authors and this was Oleg's new collab with Yuri. Same premise, it's a grandmaster architect whose been isekai'd to a new world and has to escape his money grubbing parents who try to steal his inheritance and life in order to get paid. He struggles to navigate this new world while having to dodge all the people out to kill him.
Book One: Pretty good but a little show. It's a bit more boring than Healer's Way, found myself kind of zoning out for parts of the book. But pretty okay.
Book Two: About the same as book one. There were good parts but again, I just got a little bored with it. It was easier to finish this one though because I read Ghost in the System first and decided I could do with a little boredom.
Series: Ghost in the System - Not an isekai! But it IS by Alexey, the other author of Healer's Way. It's about an antisocial guy with rage issues who gets a Ghost class when the world suddenly ends with the integration of the System, which gives the people who didn't randomly become zombies new powers.
Book One: I wanted to like it but... I just don't like the main character. Also there's way too much... deplorableness? deploracity? People being truly heinousness and deplorable. I get that stuff like that happens and it's also the end of the world which ramps up the worst vices of those who survived but... ew. Don't want to read about it. Also way too much cursing. I can do with some but wow it had a lot. It just gave me a bad taste, so I quickly jumped back to the more pleasant, if a bit boring, Order of Architects. Won't be reading more.
Series: The Hunter's Code - This is Oleg and Yuri's other collab and I have to say this one is way better than Order of Architects! It's another isekai, Alex is a grandmaster hunter who dies and gets isekai'd to a new world only to be disowned by his father and kicked out to navigate this new world by himself as he tries to rebuild the estate from his deceased mother's side of the family.
Finished Book One - Book Seven: I really enjoyed this series! My one major annoyance was Alex's bachelor ways of sleeping with everything, which is thankfully tapering off as he gets more established and needs to settle down. Besides that, it's action packed, and filled with trials that he overcomes masterfully (just like Mikhail *happy sigh*). I also love Schnoop! That little guy is hilarious, all his familiars are pretty unique and fun. Again, I only stopped at book seven because the next one sadly isn't out on audible yet.
Series: Battle Mage Farmer - This is one of my all time favorite series. Seth Ring is masterful in his writing. Also I'm pretty sure he's a Christian because his themes are just so on point! He doles out these good life lessons that are sometimes straight from the Bible and so helpful to the characters and I'm just like YES! THAT IS EXACTLY RIGHT! GO FORTH MY SON AND FLOURISH! It's so satisfying.
Anyway this series about John Sutton, a human who was Isekai'd to a new world and made into a battle mage in order to fight all the enemies and save the world. Which he does. And then decides he wants to settle into retirement (at age 30) as a farmer. But there's still one quest left to complete. Saving the world... again.
Book Nine: Culmination - I been waitin for this one, but also dreading it because it's the last one. Even though it certainly didn't end like it was the final book but I digress. On the one hand, I just want people to let this man farm. But on the other... fighting dragons is beyond cool please more fighting of the dragons!
Series: Magebreakers - It's about this guy Tane, nwho attends a magic school for four years and nearly graduates, before he reveals the truth, that he has no magic. Gets kicked out, becomes nearly destitute before the mystery of a lifetime falls into his lap with the potential to change everything.
Book One: The Flaw in All Magic - This was actually really fun to read! If you ever watched the newer Dungeons and Dragons movie and liked it, then you'll like this. Think of the relationship between Chris Pine's character and Michelle Rodriguez character. That friendship dynamic is basically this book. I really enjoyed them working together and Tane learning to let people in.
Book Two: The Emperor's Mask - So far so good! I feel like this series has the potential to really let me down, but so far I have all good things to say. This delves a bit more into Kadka and her thoughts and behavior. The story is truly predictable, which is a bit of a bummer, but I much prefer knowing the bad guy from paragraph one over the asinine shock value for shock sake which is so popular today. Also... they are friends!!!! Who doesn't love friendship books?!
Series: Amaranthine Saga - It’s about a Japanese girl who realizes she has strong spirit powers to communicate with and tend the amaranthine, which are basically spirit animals that can take human form and previously loved to eat humans but who are now playing nice as they step out of the shadows and reveal themselves to the world at large.
Booked One: Tsumiko and the enslaved Fox - yea tsumiko basically finds out she owns him, is repulsed by this, and spends the rest of the book learning how to free him and falling in love along the way. Same for him…. Listen, this book isn’t for me. I got lured in by Travis Baldree as a narrator (who I could listen to nonstop 24/7 I LOVE his narration). However, I had no business finishing this book. I should have stopped at a certain point that clearly crossed my boundaries, but I was weak and this story is salacious. Which is NOT a good thing. I’ve had to claw my way out of romance novels once before and I am not going back. So I will never read anything else in this series. It was a pretty good concept though I guess, if it could be written without all the weird, too intense, nondiscriminant intimacy. But as it is, hard pass for me.
Series: Ascendance of a Bookworm - ya'll! This is like my favorite light novel of all time!! There is an anime too but you get so much more if you read the series. It's an Isekai about a girl who ADORES books who gets killed in her library and wakes up as a child in a new world without her very favorite thing in all of life.... books! Since this world doesn't have books Myne sets out to remedy that and make her own books! Too bad magic gets in the way at every turn.
Book: Part 5 Volume 12 - We are at the end! This was the last one in the series and I had to wait a year just for the library to get it. Loved it! Went WAY to quickly. Ferdinand is the best I love him to pieces this man needs a hug just let him happy please! Such a good ending! I need more though! I need just one more book. Just one more book that's like five years in the future so that Myne can finally understand that she's being so silly and that she is already in love like come on Myne! Anyway, so sad it's over but it was so very very good!
Series: Quest Academy - Okay so this is a book about a post apocalyptic world that has been ravaged by monsters that come out of these gates and dungeons and kill humans. Luckily humanity gets powers and fight back well enough to reestablish stability and create a school to teach the newer generations how to use their powers and be heroes. Enter Sal, who plans to coast through mage school only to learn that his previously inconsequential skill is actually super dope and powerful and can most likely save thousands of lives.
Book One: Silvers - Really enjoyed this first book, but the pacing was a bit insane. Pretty sure the entire book happens over the course of two weeks. That's it. It's almost unreal how much happens in a day for Sal. But Divinity is a really good friend and his power is unbelievably broken, but he enjoyed it and I enjoy it.
Book Two: Scavengers - I have issues with this book. With this series really but it got exponentially worse in this book. 1. The adults suck. They are more childish than the teens. 2. Domination is never okay and the fact that it's allowed and explained away is alarming. 3. privilege isn't a bad thing. Abusing it is. And Sal doesn't abuse it. So it's annoying that it's always ALWAYS there. Clearly the writer is left thinking and so it shows up in his writing, warping the morals of many of his characters, especially the adults, who are supposed to be helping Sal but just make things so much worse. The solution at the end of the book was therapy to fix the damage this world view is doing to Sal but like... maybe fix the world view and Sal wouldn't need therapy? Idk I just... on the one hand I want to rage quit. On the other I really REALLY enjoy everything else about this book, the world is cool and unique, the powers are sooooo dope, and the plot is real with high stakes and a fast action pace...however... all of the characters SUCK! So.... idk... I'll probably read the next anyway just to see if gets better.
And that's it! Counting it up that makes 27 books (wowsers!) that I have consumed these last two months. So far, that is.
The summer hasn't ended yet...
#summer reading 2025#book list#sort of a review?#Mostly a summary of the book#followed by a brief did i like it or not#not really a rec list#just for me to keep track#reading is fun!#but also sorta kinda a low key quiet invite to dialogue if you have thoughts as well
