Currently Reading

I'm currently reading Girlboss# by Sophia Amoruso, founder and CEO of Nasty Gal clothing line. It's a great read, she started her business from nothing. No college degree or anything, she decided to make her own path, it's pretty inspirational. I'm not done reading yet, but so far it rules!

Groups I follow Online
I don't really follow any groups online, except for Pentagram. http://www.pentagram.com/
I love the design work that this legendary company does. I follow them on twitter and on Facebook. Everything from package design to layout design has been made by Pentagram.

Artists I Admire
I like to go to this website to view work: http://www.illustrationweb.us/artists
Artists I'm looking at right now are Annu Kilpelainen, and Illustrator from London. http://annukil.com Her vibrant use of color and texture is probably my favorite thing about her work.

Melissa Chaib is also an illustrator that I've been looking at lately.

Muxxi also has wonderful work!

Where I Get my Inspiration
I get my inspiration from all over. Mostly blogs, books, music and the environment I'm in. I like to observe things, and take notes so I can remember what inspires me.

How I Work
Whenever working on a project, I usually tend to work this way.
Research: First, I begin with research. Whether it is looking at other work, or researching a decade or person, I like to get a feel of how my overall completed work should look like.
Sketch: After research it's time to sketch. I start sketching ideas even if they are dumb, just to get in the flow of things. After I'm happy with a sketch I begin working on the computer.
Work on the Computer: I begin working on the computer and refining my concept. I think of color palate, layout etc.
After working on the computer, depending on the project, I will export for print or for web or continue to refine my work.

This is an Illustration that I am currently working on. I'm still adding some details and he is more of a character concept if anything. He will be inserted into a layout that I am working on for minero magazine.

What I do
My name is Lesly Limon and I am a graphic design student at the University of Texas at El Paso. I currently work as a graphic designer for the university, working at the Technology Support Center. I'm working on getting my adobe certifications, and this is my new blog to grow as an artist. I'm looking to create and grow this summer. I hope to be a well rounded designer one day, and lately I've really been getting into illustration. I enjoy working on art, spending time with my pets, doing yoga and playing music. This blog was started for my professional practice class, however I plan on keeping this blog updated and filled with thoughts to inspire me.
