I think anyone who is very reductive with the IWTV characters is going to struggle with Part III. If you read the show with Louis as a Goodie and Lestat as a Baddie or if you read the show with Lestat as a Goodie and the only person whose perspective matters I don’t think Part III will be very satisfying? I think some of the older book fans want Part III to be a hard reset that disavows all the writing choices they disliked from Part I and Part II (well mostly Part I) but I don’t think that’s going to happen either

I fully agree! I’ve kind of always been of the opinion that the POVs just kind of add nuance and understanding, but don’t necessarily contradict. Like maybe we will see one or two really revisionist moments (Armand’s fanfic for example). But even when Louis revised certain scenes, that was all done within his own story and was because Daniel poked holes in his testimony.

I do think the intention is that we empathize with everyone eventually, and maybe understand WHY they did the terrible things that they did. And the good and loving things they did too. And I very much agree, season 3 will not be a hard reset (and Sam has now said multiple times how much that would diminish Louis’ story). I would actually personally feel pretty cheated if for example the drop didn’t even happen or something. Like how annoying for the audience tbh.

Ultimately I’m of the opinion that the main cast of characters will balance out in level of “morality” as they continue into the modern day. Like they will do shockingly horrible things and wonderful things and continue to piss each other off and love each other despite everything. That’s the point of this story ultimately! To explore a very extreme version of human emotion and action. It would not be half as interesting without that aspect imo

The fact that the Marquis has been completely absent from all adaptations of IWTV is honestly so ridiculous to me. He’s such a fundamental part of Lestat’s characterization, especially if you view IWTV as a standalone story. He gives us one of the only real glimpses into Lestat’s past: his age, his family, and some sense of why he is the way he is.

But more than that, the Marquis serves as a crucial link between the Lestat we meet in IWTV and the one we see in TVL. Every time someone claims the Lestat in TVL feels like a completely different person, I point to the Marquis. We saw Lestat caring for his abusive, bitter father in IWTV, a man who openly admits to mistreating his son. That alone shows us Lestat immense capability for love and forgiveness (even if he’s having a full breakdown at the idea of killing his father later on, which Louis can’t seem to comprehend). That side of him has always been there, it didn’t come out of nowhere in TVL.

Idk, I just have always thought the Marquis is a great character device and one of the best bits from IWTV. I mean, Louis kills Lestat's father, everytime I remember that I have to pause for a moment. A real shame we never got to see that.

If they do decide to include David on the show, I can't see our lovely new Louis, "Mr I wanted him dead, I wanted him all to myself," accepting him. He's not sharing his husband.

I would agree.

I don't think this Louis, especially maybe since they pulled up his acceptance arc, step back in any way.

I don't think that will happen for/with Akasha either.

But ultimately by now I doubt they will include David.

So, this is Lestat's profile from the Talamasca show website. And one interesting thing from it is this little bit in it that says:

Has been known to turn humans against their will

Because, um, no? The only person Lestat ever turned against their will was David Talbot... which was a Tale of the Body Thief thing. A book that should be nowhere near close to having happened yet, if we're going by how the show appears to be sticking to adapting each VC book in order.

And look, it's just a website. This could just be a mistake they put in Lestat's profile when just drawing for info from the books for it. Something similar kinda happened in Season 1, with one of the pages of Claudia's diaries, which contained a direct quote from The Vampire Lestat book in it.

But still, that said, I think it's fun to speculate. 🙂

The easiest speculation is that the Talamasca has Lestat confused with his Maker, Magnus. Because Magnus forced himself on Lestat and turned Lestat against his will. And the Talamasca might just have mixed that up.

Another thing that this could be is that David Talbot and Lestat already met at the same time it first happened in the books (1985/6), and Lestat already turned David without the events of Body Thief having happened yet (in 1990). I don't think that is impossible.

But, of course, me being me, (😉) I can't help but wonder about my belief in what is going on with Daniel's character on the show at the end of S2, (ie, body swap), and if maybe... because I already think Daniel's character on the show has been merged with David's character. (Which Sam Ried himself said in his interview with Autumn that some characters in the books would be merged.)

And yeah, the timeline doesn't appear to work, given what we saw at the end of Season 2. But, we actually don't know how much time passed between the end of the interview and the publishing of the IWTV book. And then, when Louis and Daniel had their little telepathic convo.

Also, could we all maybe just be assuming Daniel will already be a vampire when he and Lestat have their interview in Season 3?

Because I have to say, Daniel's coughing in that Comic-Con teaser had me raising an eyebrow, given that I was assuming he was turned already when he was talking to Lestat when I was watching it the first time.

And yeah, the implication was that Lestat was doing something to Daniel to make him start coughing like that, but... maybe he wasn't? 🤔

Anyway, as I said just a day or so ago, there is actually no way to verify if Daniel was telling the truth about who (or implying who) his Maker was. Unless we see his turning being done.

But again, it's just a website. That little bit of Lestat's bio could just be an easter egg or a mistake and mean nothing at all. 😌
