Build Your New Home With Natural Wood Cedar Garage Doors
Natural wood garage doors are aesthetically very pleasing and add value to any home. Redwood, oak and cedar garage doors are very popular with many new home builders. Natural wood is really great at accenting your home. In terms of garage doors pricing wood  doors are relatively cheap to build and install however they are obviously not as durable as conventional metal or composite garage doors.
Wood garage doors will weather quickly and expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes. As such frequent up keep will be required to keep them in good condition. Many of the new wood care products do a very good job of protecting wood products including wood garage doors. If you live in area with long winters and deep snows where the snow will lay against the doors for an extended period then you will need to conduct maintenance more often. Also if you live in an area with long periods of heat and humidity such as the Southeast US you will also have to do a good job of regular maintenance to protect your investment in doremi garage door repair burnsville.
The lowest priced wood garage doors are constructed of redwood while oak and cedar garage doors are normally about twice as expensive. A 16 x 7 redwood garage door will average about $600 to $800 depending on the type of door construction. Tilt-up garage doors are especially adaptable to using wood for construction. Cedar garage doors have an additional advantage of being lightweight and very rot resistant. In addition white cedar garage doors do a fairly good job of insulating as well.
Tumblr media
If you decide to use a flush fit roll up garage door construction you should make sure the panels are constructed of one solid piece of wood. Failure to do so will mean that there is a good chance that glued and stapled seams will begin to show after weathering. Finding redwood and cedar material that is straight and clean can be expensive. Thin wood panels will have a higher risk of warping than larger dimensions. However it you are installing an oak door with long solid panels then door weight may become a concern.
For obvious reason you would not want to install cedar garage doors or any wood door in areas of high wind risk. However you can apply a wood door covering to a high wind rated door that will protect your home from hurricanes and meet local high wind building codes. In some case local building codes will not permit the modification. It probably be best find a conventional high wind garage door manufacture that has a very good artificial wood finish embossed on it if you live along the Southeast Coastal areas.
When building your home there is no doubt that natural wood garage doors do look very nice. The look of an oak, redwood or white cedar garage doors that are well maintained will certainly enhance the value of your home. It really is hard to beat the natural look of real wood.

How to Replace Your Garage Door Repair Wheaton IL Torsion Springs
Many of my colleagues implored me not to write this article. In fact, some downright told me it was stupid. There is a stigma throughout the garage door service industry that you shouldn't deal with the replacement of your door's torsion springs unless you're a highly certified professional. I, however, know that there are many Do-It-Yourselfers out there that are more than competent for such complicated tasks. That's not to say that it isn't extremely dangerous. Torsion springs are under such immense pressure that if mishandled, they have the ability to maim and kill the repairman. That's why I believe I needed to write this instruction. At the very least, you'll understand what you're getting yourself into before you engage in this risky, but equally rewarding piece of home maintenance.
Before you get started, you need know what kind of springs you're dealing with. Torsion springs are located above the door and work together as a pair, providing a smoother and more even operation. They come in many gauges specific to the size and weight of your door and offer more control over the door when raising and lowering. Even though torsion springs are much safer when they break, they are much more dangerous to replace. I honestly recommend hiring a garage door repair Wheaton IL service technician to replace these. But, for all of you competent people out there that are willing to risk it, I'll tell you how to do it.
Now I'll explain the process for changing out your torsion springs. Let me just reiterate that this is a hazardous job; and that if you're not an engineer or otherwise mechanically inclined, you should go ahead and get someone to do it for you. Or at least have someone walk you through it in person. To perform this piece of maintenance, you'll need a ladder, a couple of C-clamps, replacement springs and a wrench. Now, torsion springs come in a variety of sizes and gauges. You'll need to find out what size your garage door unit needs and get them because tightening an incorrectly sized spring won't make up for it being weaker. Conversely, if it's too large, it simply won't fit the other components of your unit.
Tumblr media
First you need to mark the cables with a permanent marker. There are drums on either side of your garage door that contain spools which the cable wraps and unwraps around every time you use your door. If the cables are still tight, mark a spot on the drum and the cable to align them later. If they're loose, pull them into place before marking them. DO NOT touch the drum or the cable with your hands. The spring may break and cause you serious injury.    There are two winding bars that are used to wind the spring. They're about a foot and a half long, made of steel or iron and should fit snugly into the holes of the winding cone so they have maximum leverage. The winding cone is located on the bar above the door, on the end of the spring. The bars should not be worn on the ends and shouldn't easily slip out of the winding cone. If the bars can move more than 1 inches while inserted into the cone, you need new bars. Mark the bars while they are inserted to see if they slip out.    Put a bar into a hole on the winding cone. Keep your grip tight. Use an open-ended wrench to loosen the set screws. This will place the spring tension on the bar, so hold tightly. Keeping the bar in the winding cone, rotate the cone to loosen the spring. If you meet any resistance, a set screw may need to be loosened further. Do not take your hand off the bar. If the cone will not unwind at all, replace the set screws and call a professional.    After the cone is loose, continue rotating the cone until the spring is unwound. Insert the second bar on the first has been rotated downward. Repeat the previous steps on the other side.    Once the springs have been safely unwound, remove the bolts that hold the stationary torsion cones in place. The stationary cones are located on the other end of the springs near the center of the door. After you've removed them from the center, slide the springs to the side of the door on either end.    Now remove the screw sets on the cable drum and take the cable off. Do the same to the other side. After you've done that, loosen the cable drums from the bearing plate they're affixed to. This should make the pole that holds the springs be able to slide side to side. Go to the right side of the door and push the pole past the bracket holding it. This will pull it free on the left side and make it possible to remove the left side spring and insert the new one. Before replacing the spring, remove the cable drum. After replacing the spring, put the cable drum back on the pole and repeat this action on the opposite side.    Make sure the springs are on the correct side by looking at the end nearest the winding cone. The end of the coil should point up and the winding cone should be away from the center. Once this is done, slid the springs to the center cone.    Almost there. Put the drums back into position and re-bolt all of the hardware. Use your cable markings to gauge where the cable drums should be placed. Tighten the set screws on the drums; then tighten them one more half turn with a wrench. Put the cable back into the slot on the drum and pull the cable to the outer edge. Tighten the pole to remove the slack. Now, attach the springs to the center cone.    Using the same bars you used to unwind the springs, wind them in the opposite direction. Remember that the bar is taking the force of the springs until the cone is set in place. Hold your grip firmly. The springs will get longer as they're wound. If they do not expand, they're not put on right. Your standard 7 foot door needs 30 quarter turns to achieve tension. An 8 foot door requires 34 quarter turns. Once wound, replace the bolts with a wrench.    Mark the pole, with the spring on, about a quarter of an inch out from the spring. Put a bar in the bottom slot of the cone and turn it slightly away from the door. Now take the second bar and tap the bar in the slot while pulling the first bar toward the center of the door. This will set the cone in place. Keep tapping until the cone slides out to the marking. Once you hit the mark, pull the bar away from the door until it is at a 90 degree angle.    Last, just tighten the set screws until they reach the pole and then tighten them about another turn. Make sure to oil your springs so they more easily expand and contract.
Well done! You just completed one of the more difficult jobs in home repair and maintenance. Now all you have to do is go brag about it!

Helpful Tips To Know The Ideal Time To Repair Your Garage Door
Garage doors are often the most overlooked part of any household. A number of US homeowners, in some of the major cities like Oahu and Pearl City, do not prefer even to spend a minute on checking their carport gates for possible damages. If these heavy structures are checked on a regular basis then it would help avoid any major technical defect in the future. It is also true that timely repairs can increase the life span of these gates.
Garage doors are used frequently. They have to move up and down numerous times in a single day. This would result in wear and tear of these heavy structures, so lack of proper repair may ultimately make these gates unusable. It is always better to hire a company which deals in garage door service to perform all the necessary repair work of your garage door. There are numerous parts of these heavy structures which may require repair. Here are some tips to understand when these parts may need a repair:
Tumblr media
* Gate tracks: Since your garage door is frequently used, there are high chances that the tracks of these structures may get damaged. If the gate does not move properly then it may mean there is something wrong with the tracks. In case it is a minor damage then with the help of a hammer you can pound them back in shape. However, if it is a major damage then you may have to get them replaced. Most homeowners, in US cities, prefer to hire a garage door repair Skokie IL technician to do the repair work of the tracks in case of any serious damage.
* Springs: If you are checking your garage gate, then ensure to check the springs also. This is important especially if you have a roll up garage. Most of the times these springs need to be readjusted. However, it is important to know that it is always better to let an expert who deals in garage door service do the repair work of the springs, since these are dangerous if dealt with by a person who knows nothing about the technicalities.

Moreover, you may not want to call a professional in case your garage door needs minor repairs. Below are a few tips that can help you carry out minor repairs.

Check the door openers to make sure they are not loose. But if they are, you should go ahead and tighten all the loose screws and bolts. However, if the metal tracks are too damaged, you may want to replace them.
Alignment of the openers
The door openers have to be properly aligned. Make sure both of the tracks are at the equal height on the walls of the garage. For fixing the misaligned tracks, you should loosen the door bolts and then move the tracks into the right position with great care. Once you are done, don't forget to tighten each bolt once again.
Remove the dirt
Make sure you clear any dist or dirt from the tracks. In the same way, the tracks should be free of any hardened grease. Check the rollers and clean them properly.
Tumblr media
Lubricate the rollers and tracks
Rollers and tracks work properly only if they are lubricated on a regular basis. For this purpose, you can go for a lubricant spray.
Tight the loose hardware
The screws of the door should be tight at all times. Aside from this, you may want to replace the damaged hinges. On the other hand, the hinges can be serviced if they sag.
Springs
The springs should be hooked in their hole. If you find it hard to do the garage door repair, all you need to do is adjust the tension in the doors. To do this, you should remove the hook of the spring to the next notch or hole.
If your garage door has a spring cable, you can adjust the tension. All you have to do is pull the cable more through the sturdy plate on the door. Once done, you can reverse the action.
Stay safe

The reason is that badly damaged garage doors are dangerous. You may end up hurting yourself or damage the door further. So, if you are sure that the door needs a major repair, you may want to contact a professional as soon as you can rather than do the repair yourself.

How To Install a Garage Door Repair
If you bought a brand new garage door, you may be wondering how you can save money on its installation and setup. If you are a handyman and have a few hours (or days) in front of you, you may want to attempt installing the garage door on your own. So how can you do so without damaging the door and paying for repairs before it is even installed? This article outlines the main steps to setting up a garage door on your own.
Gather the Required Tools
You may need tools such as a screwdriver, power drill, nails, screws, bolts and brackets to successfully install your garage doors. Make sure that the tools are close to you, and you should preferably use the pieces already provided by the manufacturer.
Remove the Old Garage Door
If this step hasn't already been done, you will have to undo the old door before you can install the new one. Start by unbolting the pulley system as well as unscrewing the hardware (springs, rollers etc.) You can then undo the track system and take off the door panels. Remove panel by panel to avoid having them fall on you. Make sure that children and/or pets are away from the garage during the process, as parts may fall down to the floor.
Tumblr media
Set Up the Panels
Once you have installed the door and possibly prepared the first panel by attaching it to the doorway, you can start setting the metal tracks on the walls. You can then install the brackets and rollers on the first panel. Ask a friend or family member to help lift the second panel to install the rollers on the left and right side of the doorway and use a power drill to screw the hinges onto the panel. Repeat the process for the last panel.
Finish Installing the Tracks
Connect the jamb brackets to the tracks and then attach them securely to the framing pieces. Make sure to not screw these components in too tight because if the door isn't level, you may have to start the process all over again. You can then screw the track hanger to the wall to finish installing the horizontal tracks. It will need to be cut to the needed length to support the track.
Finishing Touches
A torque tube may be provided by the garage's door manufacturer. If you have one in your possession, install it. These are helpful to manually open and close the door. Lastly, pull the door high enough that you can verify one more time that the tracks are well placed and that the panels are leveled. You can then tightly screw the brackets to secure the whole structure.
Installing a garage door does not have to be tricky. If you understand the process pretty well, you may be able to do it by yourself. However, always have a technician's number on hand, in case you need help. Don't wait until you break your new door to call a professional, but rather do it if you have any doubts about your garage door's installation. Not doing so may cause injuries and unnecessary garage door repairs.

Also, if the problem is severe, it should be taken care of by a professional.
