god i love so so much how buck won't lie to eddie, because he still does it with such compassion. he's like yeah, you fucked up. but you fucked up before, and at least you can fix it better this time. he's brutally honest because he knows eddie needs it, needs to not be lied to, but he also knows eddie is using the truth to berate himself. so he acknowledges the truth of the situation but empowers eddie to break out of the damaging mental cycles he's slipping into. no empty platitudes, just meeting him where he is and helping him out. it's rooted in such deep love and understanding of each other and i love it something fierce
