a whole group of big tough men, and they all have dreams that are seen as “grossly optimistic” and against what society expects from them. but it is still their dreams and they’re so passionate about them and they don’t hesitate to share them the second they are given the opportunity. Also, this whole group of men know each others’ dreams - they don’t feel the need to hide these dreams from their friends. If anything, the expect it - demand it really, because they know everyone has a dream.

Chase stood beside his old mission specialist desk, arms folded. “I can hear your foot tapping even upstairs. What’s up?”

“Nothin’.”

Chase stared at him.

“Why do you have to be the one with the smart chip?”

“Why are you such a terrible liar?”

Leo pouted at him.

Chase mock pouted back.

“Why aren’t you sneezing?”

“Why are you changing the subject?”

“Otis II is sniffing your foot.”

“Douglas altered my nose to be able to handle dog hair. Now answer.”

“Make me.”

“I have all kinds of shark facts-”

“Okay!” Leo exclaimed, throwing his project down. Chase smirked victoriously.

Leo shifted to sit criss-cross, spinning his chair as he tried to find the words. 

Chase waited patiently, hopping onto the desk so Otis II didn’t eat his shoe.

“...I don’t like this.”

“Like what?”

“Being here.”

Chase raised an eyebrow. 

“I… I dunno. I mean, on the island, I wanted nothing more than to come home again. But… I feel… restless. Like I’m not doing anything. Funny, considering I was dying from the load of work.”

“You don’t know how to take a break, because you’ve been so wired to work lately. Even breathing makes you feel like it’s unproductive and useless.”

Leo peeked at him.

“Believe me, man, it’s a leader thing. Genetic.”

“I’m adopted.”

“I keep forgetting,” Chase snorted.

Leo sighed, petting the pomeranian’s head when he moved to him.

“It’s hard. To step back. I’m still really bad at resting. But hey, you’re not alone. And can always speak to me. Or don’t speak on it, and we can build something or watch your terrible movies or really just hang out, whatever works.”

 Leo smiled, leaning back in his chair. “I missed you.”

Chase poked his cheek. “It was mutual.”

Mind you, I’ve already seen the show and (if you can’t tell) I have a natural “video essay” vibe but it would basically just be more of these thoughts. more of a "watch with me" than "reactions" really.

I think people who consider aromanticism as "basically straight" underestimate how noticeable absence can be to those around you.

Whether you're a kid in school with classmates who won't take "no one" as an answer to who you have a crush on or an adult whose coworkers have picked up on the fact that you've never mentioned a romantic partner; after enough time, a lack or insufficient amount of romantic interest will raise the antennae of friends, family, coworkers, etc... They will notice and they will speculate and they will ask.

It is impossible to meet the societal bar for straightness through inaction.
