One of my favorite things about an au where Sizhui is raised in the burial mounds is the idea of him being used to a completely different environment than other characters.

He finds Koi tower unsettling, with its massive size, all the white and gold, the ornate decorations, and suspicious lack of dirt.

Then he takes Jin Ling to the burial mounds and is like "ah yes. Here's a place where people are supposed to live. Trees, dirt, a village, fields, and what's this?" *Picks up what looks at a glance like a pebble and examines it carefully* "Ooh a knuckle bone. These don't usually stay intact for very long." Jin Ling is about to have a fit, because he found a human skull just sitting there half buried next to the road. Sizhui just says something like "of course there are skulls. Lots of people have died here," and keeps walking.
