Blog Post 10
I listened to the podcast “When A Good Idea for a Podcast is a Bad Idea Podcast”. It was about when in your pitch you have an idea that seems like a really great idea but when you start your podcast you find it it was actually not a good idea at all. In the podcast the author came up with the idea “How Was Your Day?” and when she started it she realized it was a terrible idea.
This will useful for my podcast incase when I start actually recording if I find out my idea was not so I good I will know what to do. I can kind of relate to the podcast because in my space analysis essay I learned that the idea I thought was great was actually not fitting for the project at all and maybe if I would have heard this podcast then I would have known how to handle it better. So if I come across the same problem with my podcast I will be in a better place.

I really like your questions! They are very good and open ended, and not biased at all. I like how you ask “How would you generally describe you mood” I just think that is a good question to go along with your interview. All I would change is I would probably include more of an introduction.
Blog Post #9
Interview 1:
How have you settled in to your new environment?
What is your favorite place on campus and why?
Do you ever miss home?
How important is your environment to you?
What does maxwell place mean to you?
Interview #2:
Where on campus do you live?
Whats your favorite thing about the campus around your dorm?
How would you generally describe your mood?
How has your mood been affected by the UK campus?

Grant, Trey. Personal Interview About White Hall. 15 November, 2017.
The questions I will be asking in my first interview will be: 1.)  here are we are today inside of White Hall (we will be inside of White Hall where there are always 10000 people crammed in there) what is your overall opinion of this place? 2.) How do you feel about White Hall in comparison to the Jacobs Science Building? 3.) Which do you feel like you learn better in? 4.) Why do you feel like you learn better in (their answer) compared to (not their answer)? 5.) If they see a problem with White Hall then how do they think it could be improved?
Branham, Brianna. Personal Interview About White Hall. 15 November, 2017.
The questions in my second interview will also be in White Hall and start out the same way but I know the person in this interview will have a slightly different opinion than the person in the first. In the second interview I will ask all of the same questions only replace question two with “How do you feel about White Hall in comparison to Memorial Hall?”

Biliter, Suzanne. “Three Buildings Coming Down To Make Way For New Tower”.       The Kentucky Kernel, 6 February 1967, pp. 3. Explore UK, https://exploreuk.uky.edu
This is a newspaper article from 1967 talking about the two buildings that came down to make room for expansion of UK. The two buildings were White Hall and the Patterson House. The article talks about how people weren’t sad they were coming down because they knew it had be done.
This will be good for my podcast because I want to understand as much history about White Hall as possible. This is good information about some of White Hall’s past and the different stages of renovation it has already been under. The newspaper articles are good primary sources for me because they tell what people at the time thought of White Hall too.’
Jesse Dukeminier, Professor of Law. “Views on White Hall”. The Kentucky Kernel. pp. 1. Explore UK, https://exploreuk.uky.edu
This old newspaper article that had no date is about how one day a professor wanted to show a very well respected man around campus. When they came upon Whit Hall he told him that they were planning on taking it down to make room for new places. The man was shocked and said white hall was one of the only visually appealing places on campus.
The reason this could be useful for my podcast is because my podcast is about how White Hall is not visually appealing but back before 1967 some people thought it was the most visually appealing place on campus. This is useful opposite opinion of mine but of the old White Hall. It shows how time changes things.

This is so cool! I really like this for a primary source. It's kind of like the source I found which was a newspaper article explaining the old uses of White Hall. It's crazy how much things on campus have changed! You will be able to tie this into your podcast very well I think. I don't see a citation but I am for sure what the rules were for the picture but I would make sure to know how to cite it in MLA. Your paragraphs were organized well!

Annotated Bibliography
The photo shown above is the Alumni Gym in 1935 on University of Kentucky’s campus. Being held in the gym is an annual beauty pageant, hence the three women in dresses on stage holding flower bouquets. The photo also shows a crowd on both sides of the stage where you can see men in suits and women in gowns gazing at the winners. The event allowed for a small stage and background to hoist the winners up with plants decorating the platform.
Evaluating this photo, you can tell that this is an organization held event for UK students in the once recreational center, Alumni gym. You can tell by the small amount of students participating in this event that the gym was frequently used for events for small or large. During this era, UK’s gym was used for recreational purposes as well as a space for events such as this beauty pageant. I can use this primary source in my podcast pitch by relating it to how the Johnson Center is now being used and comparing the two eras. Both were used for a recreational space for students, but the alumni gym was also a space used for campus wide events for which the Johnson center is only for fitness purposes. I can also refer this picture as the gym being the social space for students on campus as is the JC.

Finley, Christa. “White Hall, One Of Oldest UK Buildings, Has Had Many Uses”. The Kentcky Kernel (University of Kentucky), 26 June 1959, pg 4. Explore UK, http://exploreuk.uky.edu/catalog/xt7q5717n38j_4
This newspaper article in the Kentucky Kernal was written about White Hall and all the different uses that it has had. The article says that White Hall started as a men’s dormitory and was then a theatre and the Music and Arts Department and the Botany Department and at the time \ it was the College of Commerce and the Economies Department. It also talks about Professor James Garrard White, who White Hall was named after, and tells about who he was and why White Hal was named after him
The reason this source will be a good primary source for my podcast is because I will be talking about the reasons UK may have for not renovating White Hall and some of the history of White Hall. This is a great source for the history of White Hall because it talks about some of the first uses of White Hall and where it got its name. It also gives you a sense of why White Hall is such an important part of UK’s campus.

Response to Kaitlin
Kaitlin, your presentation was very good. I really like the idea of your topic because I totally agree. Willy T definitely is more of a social hangout at times than a real library that you can sit and study. I know I have tried to study there many times when I just really needed some quiet to be able to actually comprehend what I’m doing and it’s like everyone around me is having a freaking party and I am like what the heck dude.  I liked your use of the chart with stats about other libraries on campus. You presented very well and kept eye contact and changed your tone of voice.
If I was you I would go to the library during the busy time of night and interview people and see if they consider the library a social hangout or a library and see their opinion behind whatever answer they give.

Response to Natalie
Natalie, I loved your presentation. You are a great presenter! I totally agree that art on campus goes unrecognized and especially the art in the library. Most of the time students in the library are so busy and focused on their work or studying for test that they do not take in the beauty that is held inside of there. All of the facts you included in your presentation were very interesting. I had no idea that that tapestry weighed over three hundred pounds that totally shocked me and its cool that a famous artist made the tapestry.
For things you could do, if I was you I would interview some of the busy students in Starbucks maybe while they are waiting in line to see if they have ever noticed the tapestry and if they have seen it ask if they actually know anything about it. I would guess a lot of them won’t know.

I thought peer review was extremely helpful. Its always a little awkward to let someone read you r work because you’re thinking oh my gosh is this good. But it always really helps to let one of your classmates look over your work to see if there is something you may have missed and messed up on. The strategy that was the most helpful for me was finding the thesis because I struggle with thesis's. I like working in groups.

I like that you chose woodland glenn because I live in woodland glenn 1 and I feet the same way about it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Photo 1- the football field. I notice that there are not many people here although it is game day. I chose this space because I have always gone to football games with my family and this is a special place to me. I wonder as to why it is now called Kroger field as before it was called commonwealth stadium. I think that there should be a larger indication of the name of this field and more of a reason as to why this is named what it is and why.
Photo 2- This is a picture of the inside of Whitehall. I chose this because most of my time is spent in this place and the grades I get here will determine my future, along with all of the other students here. The walls and doors and rooms do not show the amount of impact that this building will have on the students. What are these pictures? Why are they here? What do they mean?
Photo 3- This is woodland glen 4. This is home to many may people including myself and all of my new friends here who make me feel like I am home. Why is this one of the biggest buildings here and what is the significance of that. This is new, why was it built and who built it?

Blog Post #4
Tumblr media
So here is my first picture, this is the same one I had from class and it is of the no smoking sign on campus that read “Welcome to our tobacco free campus”. I chose this picture because it did articulate a problem in my mind and the problem was that I do see people with tobacco products on campus often so this rule is not followed very well. Which made me think of some questions like what are the risk of smoking on campus? What average of students do follow this rule? What is the punishment of not following the rule? How strictly is it enforced? And whats at stake for not asking these questions is possibly facing the consequences yourself or being confused on why these signs are everywhere yet everyone is smoking.
Tumblr media
. My next picture was of the Johnson Center because I love to workout here and I think it is an interesting building. I don't have as fruitful of questions for the JC but I think its cool that so many people from all over workout here. Some questions that I have about the Johnson are what average of uk students that live on campus workout here? What are the benefits of working out in college relating to relieving stress? And what is at stake is that what if you aren't working out and you are facing high levels of stress and getting unhealthy then you are missing out on something that could help and provided with our tuition
Tumblr media
My last picture is of blanding tower and I chose this picture because my mom lived here in college so I have an interest in it. A lot of questions to me over the blanding tower because so many people I know have lived in it. Like how many people have lived in these towers? Why did they chose to close these towers down and keep the other older living quarters like Baldwin? And what is at stake for not asking these questions is not knowing the history of this tower.

A agree I felt like the speech was simple because we were just talking about ourselves and what is important to us which comes natural.
Blog Post #3
I think the my speech went as planned. I don’t think this speech was too difficult because we were speaking about something that was meaningful to us. This speech was about us and not anything else so it made the speech feel more personal and easier to talk about. If I were to do something different, I would have organized my speech a little better and made it so it was easier to follow.  My strongest point was talking to the class about my place and being able to give people an idea of who I am, and what I believe in.  My weakest point probably my organization of my speech, I could have made it flow a little better and had a stronger conclusion. I could make the audience connect more by being more of an active speaker, and engaging my listeners better. I don’t have any concerns about upcoming assessments, more as excitement to see what all is coming next.

Blog Post 3
I was pleased with how my speech turned out. Looking back if I had to change anything withy speech I would go back and practice it more and have a better idea of what I was going to say so it wouldn’t be so all over the place. Also, I would work on not using word fillers as in “like”. I definitely have a problem with saying “like” too much and noticed myself saying it a few times while I was doing my speech. And to make my audience connect with my speech more I would engage with them more and relate my topic with them. I am nervous about our essay because I am not the best writer ever but I will probably take a visit to the writing center to get help from them soon. I am a little bit confused on what we are writing our speech over, from what I understand it is about  a space or place that we take interest in but we have to use what we read about in “Looking for Trouble” and detect a problem and write about that.

A agree that the interview with Daniel and Sylvia was very funny I definitely couldn't stay friends with my ex like that but I really liked how she kept comparing their story to Sex and the City..very funny!
Blog Post #2
My favorite interview from “24 Hours at the Golden Apple” would be the interview between Daniel and Sylvia talked about by Susan Burton. I think it’s one of the funnier interviews in my opinion especially because they talk about Sex and the City which is a show I watch, and they even play the show’s theme song. Another funny part of their interview is them talking about each other’s weddings and the feeling the both of them would have. Daniel even tells Sylvia he wasn’t sure it would work out when he finds out she was planning on getting married. I think this interview was funny partly because of just hearing them talk and the dialogue they chose. I couldn’t really use this interview as a basis for my introductory speech because I can’t relate to their situation at all, I just thought this interview was just one that stuck out because it was very funny.

My favorite interview was the interview done by Ira Glass with Robert. I liked it because it reminded me of a diner in my hometown called Happy Days Diner  that me and my boyfriend liked to go to for breakfast and also sometimes me and my family for dinner. Anytime you go in the diner there are so many sweet little old men that are regulars that go there every single day and sometimes multiple times a day for coffee and homemade pie. Robert reminded me of the little old men that I used to see in my hometown diner. He was so sweet because he said that he didn't know what more to say to the pretty waitresses other than hello and goodbye because they intimidated him and made him shy. I could use this in preparation to my introductory speech because it helps remind me of what things are important to me and what I need to use to properly introduce myself to the class.
