Fun fact:

The outsiders characters would be the same ages now as the newsies characters would have been in the 1960s.

Dallas Winston could have lived in New York City at the same time as 70-something Jack Kelly, David Jacobs, etc. The 1899 newsboys strike was probably a thing he heard the old people in New York talk about. He may have known kids whose grandparents or great grandparents had been a part of it.

after his death, bob’s parents give cherry his rings.

“he would’ve wanted you to have them, darling.” his mother says tearfully, embracing cherry. “if.. if he were here, if that— that hood hadn’t taken him from us…” she nearly spits out the words, her voice laced with hatred.

“thank you, ma’am.” is all cherry can manage, nodding politely at mrs. sheldon.

she keeps them in a small dish on her vanity, right where she can see them. they serve as a reminder.

a reminder of how bob could be kind, and strong, and even sweet, sometimes.

a reminder of how he was just as likely to be loud, drunk, and cruel.

not just a reminder of bob, but of johnny, too.

of the soft spoken “hood” who had sensed her discomfort at his friend’s harassment and put a stop to it.

of how he was frantic and jumpy, unable to relax no matter how far away the rings were.

of the massive scar that ran across his face, a horrible clash against his otherwise youthful appearance.

of how the rings had split skin and spilled blood, forever leaving scars, both inside and out.

when she sat at her vanity each morning, the sunrise peeking through her window, she was reminded of bob and johnny, randy and ponyboy, herself and dallas—every soc and greaser alike whose lives had been changed by those rings.

I’m very nearly always the initiator or the one that suggests it, unless it’s some big group thing, and then I’m not being invited personally, it’s always a general invitation to everyone

sometimes I wonder how long it would take for certain friends to ask me to hang out if I stopped asking

i think they would never ask

sometimes when I’m really sad I think about trying and seeing how long it takes but I never do I would get too lonely
