thinking about the intimacy of names in house md. to house wilson is always wilson, occasionally jimmy; never james. the first major character who goes primarily by her first name is stacy; she’s also the only main character to consistently call house ‘greg’. we all know how it ends. thirteen’s real name is revealed in the same two-part special where she tests herself for huntington’s. the first explanation house comes up with for why kutner killed himself was the identity crisis caused by switching from choudhary to kutner. amber’s fate is sealed the moment cut-throat bitch never quite catches on and she reappears as wilson’s girlfriend to call house ‘greg’ with a smile. chase and cameron never quite break out of the habit of referring to each other by their surnames even after marriage and so of course things never work out. Biting at the walls of my enclosure as we speak

nd struggle of crashing out because people don’t care about stuff the same way you do. when i hear someone say they’ve started watching house im like jipee !!! and then they say yeah it’s great to put on in the background! … what. nononono but you’ll miss all the parallels and the references and the small glances and the details and-
then i have to stop and remember it’s not my problem if they don’t like it the way i do, because i do and that’s all that matters

just watched the season 6 finale and i was thinking about making a longer and more detailed post but
-
-
instead i've decided to keep it simple and just say anybody who genuinely thinks house doesn't care about people must have watched a different show

being in the house md fandom is crazy because you could be scrolling tiktok and see the most gut wrenching hilson edit to a hozier song and the very next video is a roblox character with a house skin running from a giant rat in a room made of cheese

Since this show is having a bit of a resurgence, and enough time has passed that this story is now funny instead of mortifying, gather round kids while I tell the people of tumblr dot com a cautionary tale about meeting your mutuals:
Way back in '08 or so, I was active on a certain fansite (LJ) dedicated to shipping some characters for a certain TV show that was very popular at the time. I made friends with some of the other people on the site, including adding each other on Facebook (because it was 2008). Life moves on, I go to college, I stop watching so much TV, we fall out of touch, and so forth.
UNTIL.
One day, years later, I am at an event at a bar with several friends supporting my roommate, who was performing a comedy routine.
I turn and realize that one of those mutuals is sitting next to me in the bar. I message her on facebook just to confirm.
Turns out that *her* roommate was also performing a drag routine in the same show. We freak out a bit, say hello, and of course everyone wants to know how in the world we know each other.
Listen. I'm glad that fandom in general is a lot more accepted than it was back in the 2010s, but.
Let me just tell you that there's nothing quite like sitting in a gay bar in Queens while someone you barely know tells your IRL friends about how much time you spent in high school on the internet imagining two characters from House, MD making out, and when that happens you will in fact never live it down.
